My brother and I have been having a lot of fights over this recently. He thinks that The Legend of Zelda has a deeper story than God of War, going as far as to say that one Zelda game alone (Ocarina of Time, FYI) has a deeper story than all the God of War games put together. He says that Zelda has a vast, sprawling story, which I agree to, but he also agrees that Link is not a character at all, and Kratos is a very well developed and fleshed out character.

Ultimately, my brother said that he believes God of War was good at developing onecharacter (Kratos), but Zelda was better at developing its entire story, universe, with its own history, geography, mythologies and legends. I said that may all be true, but when it comes down to it, Kratos' excellent character development makes God of War a deep and enthralling tale.

I pointed out that before I had played either God of War or Ocarina of Time, I had read both their stories on Wikipedia, and Ocarina's felt positively barebones in comparision to God of War's excellent narrative.

So what I want to know is, what do you guys think? As a series, which of the two, Zelda or God of War, has a deeper story? Mind you, I said deeper, not better, as one does not always imply the other.

Please tell me what you think, so that me and my brother can resolve this debate once and for all decisively.

Super Mario story is the best, because the magic princess always moving to another castle keeps the suspence high. I strongly feel this way.

Don't mod me. I will now give an honest answer. God of war story is better than zelda in my opinion because i feel us gamers can connect with kratos more on a personal level as we share a lot of his problems such as nightmares andstrenuous physical activity. Therefore the story is deeper, as u asked; because his problems can be related to.

I'd say God of War has a deeper story, but I don't think either is really deep.

God of War. Zelda may be the better game, but it barely has a story. There's only one twist, when Gannon takes over. After that, it's just "collect medals until you're ready to kill him". It's not bad, you can just tell God of War's story has more effort put into it.

I thought Ocarina and Twilight had good stories. God of War is just more violent and full of rage. Both are same ol' same ol IMO.

I think Wind Waker has one of the deepest stories from last gen. Most people passed it off as simple but there were a ton of subtleties that no one seemed to notice. The theme of the game is presented so artfully that you only realise how clever the game's title is when it concludes.

SPOILERS: To find out at the very end that everything you accomplished in the game was wrong was quite something. The King forced two children, Link and Tetra, into roles of the past (hero of time and Zelda) so that he could regain his kingdom of old (hyrule). The thing is, the Godesses flooded Hyrule for a reason. As long as that land exists, so does evil. Only at the last few moments of the game does the king realise what he was doing to these children was wrong. They weren't living their OWN lives, but rather the lives of their ancestors and so he wished on the triforce that they have a FUTURE. THey must look forward rather than backward. They must move ever forward like the wind!

God of War. Just because it was fairly original at the time, and its definately more exciting.

God of War is based on Greek Mythology which in turn created Greek literature from which most of the legends and stories of the western world comes from, our architecture, political systems, law, sports, language, and a long list of etceteras, comes from what the Greek Civilization created, so no contest.

I have looked at it like this. I see God of War as the "mature" zelda. really. Fighting, different methods for different enemies, bosses that take special ways to kill, and enviroments that are more puzzles than anything else. So I kind of see them as half brothers and have no desire to compare,I like them both about equally.

There should have been an option for "Neither game has a deep storyline".

Most Nintendo games are very generic in their storylines i mean how many times is princess peach gonna be taken hostage they more focus on being innovative in the gameplay although Zelda definately needs an update.

Well...God Of War's story is:

There's an angry, generic muscular warrior guy who worships some nutty wargod. The god possesses him because he won't kill things and kills his family. Then the apocalypse randomly comes and he has to fight all the gods. Definitely not generic. At all. Rawr. And it's got gore too. And it's in Rome. Two completely original things.

LoZ:Ocarina Of Time's story is...geez, I can't remember, but it was better than that...XD
