Ive been lookin at gran turismo 4 lately and it looks like fun but I don't understand all the numbers on the screen and that bar at the bottom. Is this is a complicated racing game?

well obviously GT4 is a simulation racing game, its cmplicated by nature, at least more so then the likes of Ridge Racer, Daytona or Sega Rally, all of which are arcade racing games. that GT has all of the car mod/buy/sell aspect of things, as well as the various modes of play so its a much bigger game in scope. its up to you really.Ive been lookin at gran turismo 4 lately and it looks like fun but I don't understand all the numbers on the screen and that bar at the bottom. the bar on the bottom is your g forces. the other numbers are the lap times, position, and what lap your on. the other bars show how much gas/brake you are using. the red bar going horizontal is nos, the horizontal blue bar is how much gas you have left. the bar in the lower right is RPM. when driving a prius the middle numbers are your MPG, the right numbers are how much fuel was usedIve been lookin at gran turismo 4 lately and it looks like fun but I don't understand all the numbers on the screen and that bar at the bottom. Its just racing basics...if you want to get really technical and complicated find some of the racing sims for PC...that's almost nightmarish for me lol. GT4 isn't hard at all imo...Just very time consuming.
Ive only played GT3 and 4 sadly, I only found GT3 to be the fun one :P , Im just more into arcade racing games if anything. The Gran Turismo series has never been ahardcore racing sim (unlike games such as the rFactor and GTR series), so it's pretty accessible. TheGT gamesI've played (1 to 4) aren't really hard.

Bar at the bottom is the lateral G force - when you turn a car right, the weight will shift to the left (and vice versa) due to G force. This bar is an indicator of how strong the G force is, and the resulting weight shift. I wouldn't worry about it, you can enjoy the game without ever looking at it.
Numbers around the top and sides are race related info (lap times, race position, current lap etc.). Numbers at the bottom are car related info (speed, gear, revs etc.)
If you're used to arcade racers, it might take you a while to get used to Gran Turismo, but as sims go it's quite accessible. Just remember that you need to brake before corners. That way, weight will shift to the front, putting more grip on the front tyres, making cornering easier. It's better to take a corner slowly and come out the other side, than it is to go in fast, leave the track, hit the wall, turn around and come back on to the track. You can't powerslide through corners at 180mph like you can in Burnout or NFS.
i've played nearly every racing game ever invented (like Pole position to Daytona USA, to Gran Turismo 1,2,3.4,5 ) and I wouldnt say Gran Turismo4 is exactly a "hard" game, but you might find it a challenge to learn how to win races. It's not the type of game where you just hold down the gas and drift through every turn (like Burnout, Split Second, Need for Speed, etc), but once you learn how to handle the cars (by taking the license tests and lots of practice) you'll find its a fun game. Dont be shocked if you are stuck driving a boring car for a little while until you can afford a fast fancy car. I personally like Project Gotham Racing (xbox and xbox360) better, it's more forgiving than Gran Turismo.
also on a side note, if you like GT4, look into Tourist Trophy. It's nearly the same game, but with motorcycles. I think it's actually more fun.
If you aren't used to accurate-ish car simulation, it will seem very hard. I sucked at it terribly at first, but after I got addicted to it, it got much easier. And playing around with your car is fun too; trying to steer a crappy 80s Skyline with 500 horsepower is an exercise in lulz.
