I'm a huge fan of the GTA-series and have played every game since GTA III. Now they are available on Playstation Store. Is it worth bying? I haven't really played any of them since I got them for PS2. Are they still good when you compare them to GTA IV and V?

Yes, they are still fun and great games.

Some may say they have outdated graphics but who cares :) the games hold up even today. And are probably better than 90% of the shit that are released today.

@Jacanuk: Okay, thanks. Maybe I'll get them. I do enjoy good graphics, but it's not that important. I still enjoy the occasional old game with "crappy" graphics.

I don't know... I mean, San Andreas is still among my favorite games, but I can't enjoy that game anywhere near what I did when I played it. It's just aged so poorly in terms of its visuals and gameplay. I can't imagine what the GTA's prior to that are like since I didn't play any of them. I'm still a little tempted to buy these older GTA games on the PS4 since I haven't played them, but if my revisiting of San Andreas is anything to go by, I'm not so sure it'd be worth it.

I totally agree with you. It's a great nostalgic trip but it just doesn't cut the mustard anymore. It's great as a portable game! I have it on my phone and gta Vice City stories on the Vita.

The graphics are one thing, but the thing people forget about are the controls. It just feels so different. San Andreas was the first "3D era" GTA to really start implementing more updated controls and camera.

I also don't need the best graphics, but GTA was on another level with their visuals back then, and I don't mean in a good way. Even at that time many people thought they weren't the best looking games. Those huge open worlds really took a toll on the overall visual quality.

Just check out some videos first. It was a shock for me when I watched a "Replay" on Vice City.

Vice City Controls:

On Foot

  • LEFT ANALOG/D-Pad: Move (Press lightly to walk, hard to walk faster)
  • RIGHT ANALOG: Look Around (When standing still)
  • X: Hold to run
  • SQUARE: Jump
  • TRIANGLE: Commandeer (Carjack) a Vehicle
  • CIRCLE: Attack/Use Weapon
  • R1: Target Weapon
  • L1: Position Camera Behind Character/ Buy something when standing over Icon
  • R3: Look Behind
  • L3: Crouch
  • R2/L2: Cycle Weapon Left/Right
  • SELECT: Change Camera View
  • START: Pause/Unpause

In a Vehicle

  • LEFT ANALOG/D-Pad: Steer car
  • X: Accelerate
  • SQUARE: Brake/Reverse
  • TRIANGLE: Get out
  • CIRCLE: Fire weapon
  • R1: Emergency brake
  • L1: Change radio station
  • R3: Horn
  • L3: Turret control (sub-missions)
  • R2/L2: Change camera view
  • R2+L2: Look behind

Vice City Controls:

GTA SA was the first "3D era" what are you on about?

GTA SA was the 3rd game that was in 3D

GTA 3 and Vice City being the 2 first.

Also GTA is more than it´s visuals and when people today can play shit like minecraft and Undertale, a well made game like GTA def. holds up.

I wouldn't really recommend them myself not only because of the graphics but the controls and gameplay have been greatly improved upon in GTAIV and GTAV.

Lol...did you read it? Why would you quote my entire post and then focus on one thing completely out of context? That makes no sense. It's like me doing this to you..."GTA SA was the 3rd game" what are you on about? What you were on about is the rest of that sentence, and I already know that because I'm a huge fan.

What I said was...

"San Andreas was the first "3D era" GTA to really start implementing more updated controls and camera."

It's an entire sentence, so you ruin the point by stopping after the quotes.

So yes, GTA SA was the 3rd game that was in 3D, but it's still the FIRST "3D era" GTA that plays like a more modern GTA. This is because of the updated controls and camera. That's what I was saying.

Rockstar Games refers to GTA III - GTA SA as the "3D era" and GTA IV & V as "HD era".

And I know it's more about visuals, but how you feel about those visuals is super subjective. GTA only holds up for some, just like only some like Minecraft or Undertale. That's why I said "Just check out some videos first.". I was still playing and creating scripts for VC and SA a couple years ago, but I'm fanatical about those games. If you haven't played since PS2, your memory and expectations might be on a completely different level than someone like myself.
