As some of you probably know, there are modifications that were done to the PC version of Final Fantasy VII that many would probably see as improvements. For example, i think i saw that the characters in battles look better. Is it illegal to use these mods?

No, mods are perfectly legal as long as you purchased a legitinate copy.

You can replace all the face models with vagina-faces and make the game run 50x faster, replacing the original sound track with country music and throwing in a Barbie doll boss fight at the end.. and no one can do jack about it.

Modify the game however you want. Even hack the binary if you'd like. The only time someone will complain is if you're hacking in an online multiplayer game and unfairly ruining other player's gaming experience as a result. Last time, I checked FF7 wasn't an online MP game though. Do whatever you want.

OK, thanks. I do have a copy. However, a problem i came up with years ago was that after reaching a certain point on FF7 on the first disc, i basically couldn't continue because of some problem with the game. frustrated, i deleted the game, and i feel somewhat unsure about playing again with mods, due to the possibility that the mods will mess up my game so i cannot continue. I am thinking about buying the game for the PSP since that might lower the chance something like this could happen. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

No matter which version you choose, though it is right you can mod it as much as you want, there will be ALWAYS the chance you ruin important things that the system would need and mess it up. Only way you won't have this problem is if you don't mess around with it.

I see. Well, i heard recently that Steam might release FF7. So i guess i have to choose that or the PSP version. Though i hope the Steam version isn't the same as the PC version i own. Otherwise, there will be the annoying problems with the graphics and the lower quality sound, compared to the PS1 version.
