And if so, does it make the game harder?

Yes and no. I actually found it easier to beat Oblivion when I played through the game at level 1 than when I leveled up whenever I got a chance.

this is the single reason why oblivion went from my fav game ever when i first started playing it to totally unplayable for me..

i mean i spend hours on side quests leveling up thinking my character is getting strong, then i get killed by some crab i should have squashed with my foot.

i hope to got skyrim isnt like this.

So would you all recommend not leveling up then? If I don't level up, can I still increase my individual skills?

Yes. Just custom make a character with prime attributes you never use. The enemies scale to you, so it wont be any hardre - I would think.

Really? You can go through Obvilion at level one? Where's the fun in that? I hope that it is not the same for Skyrim!

i forget whether or not there are level requirements for certain quests (not for difficulty, but in the game actually telling you "go level up more"). that would be the only possible snag i could think of. other than that, enemies just level and gear up along with you. the benefits you get from leveling are generally only seen if you are specializing, so you really just get encouraged to max out your important stats and then become an insomniac to not level up any more.

If the enemies level up with you, then it pretty much defeats the purpose of leveling up. No?

There are level requirements for certain quests. Mostly the Deadra shrine ones. I haven't seen any level requirements for anything other then that.

Are those side quests or required?

That is pretty much the only thing that makes oblivion unplayable. If it weren't for the level scaling the game would be much better but the level scaling pretty much killed it.

I definitely think it's possible, but I don't see why anybody would want to do this.

people can adjust the difficulty to their level of challenge they want, plus leveling up allows people to increase attributes like strength, intelligence, speed, agility, etc, things that effect your skills and item usage, even enemies getting more difficult the more you level up it doesn't make the game unplayable, yes sometimes it does make people hit a roadblock where they might not want to go on certain quests they can't finish because of difficult enemies or tasks, but there's many quests people can do instead in that'll give them experience and allow them to level up and maybe take on those other more difficult quests later I don't think the game is unplayable, rather I think it just requires people put more time and thought into the game than other games require, fair to say though it's not for everyone

I don't think it is possible simply because of the Dark Brotherhood. To join the guild, you have to be visited in your sleep. I guess you could murder someone early in the game and sleep before you'd improved ten of your core skills, but that seems like it would be hard to accomplish.

The ennemies level up with you. Its cooler to level up and play. You get better fights. Or game gets boring.

Wow I didn't know about that when I started playing the PC version a few years back, would you recommend NOT levelling then or just doing things as normal as next month I will be playing it for 360.

Yes you can, there's a bug in one of the daedric shrine quests which lets you complete it at any level.

Yeah, you can. You are able to do this by never sleeping.

As someone said just choose skills you will never use, then you will never have to level up.
