due to the fact that there are many many great games for the ps2 out and they are mostly a real bargain its not weird to invest.
for example:
god of war 1+2
devil may cry 1+3
mark of kri
metal gear solid 2+3
resident evil 4
...and these are only a few of the huge library.
so due to the fact that you already have a ps2 its not weird to invest in those gems.
plus you can also play the old psone games
check these great games out.
Einhander (best shooter on psone hands down...perfect 2d gameplay with great cinematic camera angles...so its 2,5d )

Tomba! (great jump n run adventure with rpg elements and great 2d comic graphics in a 2,5d world...play a kid with pink hair and fight against pigs)

Future Cop L.A.P.D. (very good third person action with awesome 2 player mode)

Sheep Raider (Jump n Run with Puzzle and Stealth Elements....catch the sheeps as wile e.coyote...awesome)
http://www.gamespot.com/ps/action/sheepraider/index.html?tag=result;title;1
Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night (one of the best games ever which puts the castlevania series to a new level... 2d awesomness!....and so does the great 2d sequels on gba and ds)
http://www.gamespot.com/ps/adventure/castlevaniasymphonyoftn/index.html?tag=result;title;0
Alundra (great 2d action rpg awesomness....you might also like the totally underrated sequel which has not much to do with alundra 1 and cant compare with it cause its a total different game and only has the alundra name in the title but despite that, it is also a very enjoyable game...i think there are 2 groups who rates the sequel: one dislikes this game and the others find it entertaining...oh and there is also a bonus game later in the game...a funny fast paced arena shooter in the vein of robotron 2084)

Hey guys, I recently purchased a LOT of games (17) for $20 and they're great. There's so many more I want though.. is it odd to invest a lot of money into a PS2 now that new gen consoles are out?
I mean.. I had a 360.. I sold it because I didn't enjoy it a lot... it seems like shooter after shooter and shooter. The single player games like Lost Odyssey were good but the 360 hardware made the experience crap for me (disc errors, rrod). PS3 library isn't enough for me to purchase one. Online games are not very high in my interests anymore.
So if I start buying like a crap load of PS2 games, it wouldn't be that farfetched would it? I got the ps2 for free, and if it breaks I'm considering buying the new slim PS2 too, since I already got a lot of games for it.
Tell me if you think it's worth it, or if the next gen consoles will pick up and be worth it.

Honestly speaking, I don't rely on backwards compatability mainly because you always need to get updateds, games are always freezing, and a lot of them are not capatable at all. So what i'm trying to say is, don't buy a PS3 if you are interested in PS2 games right now. If anything, buy a PS2 Slim....in the future pick up a PS3 when you feel that you are ready to.
No, there's nothing weird about it. When you can buy 17 games for $20, it makes you look like the smart one next to the people who pay $60 for one game.
Yeah, I totally did the same thing a few years back where there were all these great games coming out on the PS2 so I just started collecting games and now I have like 90 PS2 games. Of course I'm not the best person to model your life after, but like everyone is saying: if it makes you happy, do it. You're not hurting anyone and if you go out and exercise and have a social life, and a job then you're not hurting yourself either.
