^ KOTOR was an action- (fork road) adventure game with stats.

There's hardly any role playing elements in it, but that's true for evey Bioware game.

The closest thing to a true role playing game was Fallout 1 (; 2 and 3 are to liniar and grining-combat orientated). But even it had flaws, like the turned based combat and over-emphasis on the numbers/spreadsheet.

[QUOTE="SpaceMoose"][QUOTE="Xbox360God"] No, a friend and I have been debating if the first KOTOR game is considered an RPG. Xbox360God
Well, anyway, I don't see how it could be considered anything but. It's a role playing game in pretty much every sense of the word. The combat, if uninterrupted, just makes it not really look like one.

everyone agrees besides my one friend still....

This debate doesn't even exists outside of this topic and you two. KOTOR is an RPG, it's as simple as that. Your friend is arguing for the sake of arguing right now, and is wasting his and our time by bringing up such a trivial matter. Here it is the game is how ever many years old and when you look it up KOTOR will always be found under the genre whether your friend agrees or not. Tell him to get over it. He is beating a dead horse.

This thread is win. For the dude asking if its an RPG yes it is, its a WRPG in the vein of say Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter Nights or Fallout etc. They are WRPGS and are different from JRPGS in that a lot of them arent turn based but they are rpgs nonetheless. An Action RPG is a game like Diablo, Titans Quest or even Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and X-men Legends.

There is more role-playing in KotOR than most JRPGs to be released in the past 10 years... and even they are considered RPGs by industry standards.

Why do I feel like if I posted that, I'd get a warning from someone like duxup for disruptive posting?

I consider it to be an RPG. The combat appeared more action-heavy, but it was basically turn-based with "dice rolls" determinng hits and damage, and experience points were used to level users up to gain more stats and abilities.

If we can't call that an RPG, we can't use that term for most single-player games referred to as RPGs today, including the Final Fantasy series.

KOTOR is absolutely an RPG. It's a little towards the Action RPG side but its still an RPG.
