What do you think? I personally think it is, despite what many people say that MGS's formula is not suited for the majority, I think it will really help the PS3 sell. Similarly how Gears of War did back in 2006.

I believe it is, mostly after seeing people line up in that video saying they only wanted to buy the Bundle.

I've been saying all along that MGS4 won't sell systems because it has no mainstream appeal. However, even if that position is wrong, I'm still wondering what effect MGS4 will have... if GTAIV couldn't sell systems it seems like nothing will.

Perhaps. After all, GTA IV is not going to sell PlayStation 3s to people who own Xbox 360s.

not really.

I am one of the minority who will buy a PS3 just for MGS4, but not until the next PS3 price drop at the end of the year prolly

Sorry, I'm not dropping $470.00 to play one game. I plan to pick up a PS3 down the line but a: the console needs to drop in price, b: I need to see more games that I can't play on my 360 that I actually care about on it, and c: Sony needs to get PSN up to speed wih XBox Live. I really do want that Blu-ray player though.:D

the 80 gig bundle I am sure will sell like fire. If they did not come out with that bundle I can see it moving some systems, but not by a major margin. The 80 gig bundle which is a great deal, with bc, the dual shock 3, and mgs4 will sell off the shelves like crazy.

No and i love metal gear games. But games like GTA and Halo, they are bigger than just video games. They are like pop culture. Metal Gear is more of a "gamer's" game. I guess that's why i like them so much. It will definitely sell some systems, but not the amount that games like GTA, Halo, Mario, etc. do

Err... Halo and GTA4 didn't sell many systems... which was the whole point of this discussion. Will MGS4 sell systems? I think it will definately sell the limited bundles. As for PS3 itself, who knows. I think it will have a greater effect than GTA4 because it is an exclusive. The Mario Galaxy effect is difficult to measure, because the Wii system sold well regardless. It's hard to tell whether the Wiis were being sold out because of Mario, or because of Wii. It would have sold out regardless, even without mario. As for why Halo 3 didn't sell many Xbox 360s, my guess is that the Halo fanbase shared a large overlap with the Gears of War fanbase, which was an exclusive. Almost everyone who wanted Halo 3 already owned a 360 for GoW, so not much hardware got pushed when Halo 3 released. If GoW didn't release before Halo 3, Halo 3 would have shifted a lot of Xbox 360s but GoW wouldn't have. I don't expect GoW2 to sell many 360s because the target fanbase already owns one. Unless theirs breaks down... which it probably will.

Well, if you take consideration into the latest NPDs and how it shows that GTAIV didn't really move systems...then yes!

But there are many reasons why MGS4 is a system seller.

1. It's exclusive.

2. It's Kojima's last game.

3. It's Metal Gear.

4. I'd buy a PS3 for MGS4.

Number 4 is the most important reason, of course! :P

I think GTA IV is a system seller.

Everyone bought their system months or years in advance because of it. *shrugs* Who knows if it's the same case for MGS4 or not. We shall see.

Anytime I ask a non or casual gamer if they know what MGS is they all say no, so I doubt they would go out and buy a PS3 for something that's not mentioned anywhere else. I think MGS4 would be too much for them because traditionally MGS has very long cutscenes, the plot is extremely complex, and the game is about stealth rather than action. It'll mostly only attract gamers, but most gamers have an allegiance to their console so even a lot of them wouldn't join in.

With it right now being exclusive, yes it will sell PS3's, with GTA4 being on both platforms, I think that's the reason it is not selling systems, people can just buy it for whatever system they own out of the ps3 or 360.

If it get a PS3, it will be because of the blu-ray player and not because of only MGS4. I haven't got a blu-ray player yet, and it seems to me that PS3 is about the smartest choice to make for blu-ray. It's one of the least expensive and the firmware is upgradeable.
