Do any of you think next gen is going to do alright and we will have the wealth of good games we have had this generation. There seems to be a lot negative thoughts about this upcoming gen by a lot of people but surely all these developers are prepared of what's coming.VidGamer_basic
As long as they reach equilibrium as soon as possible, then it will be fine.
Also, it can't rely on failed control methods that people don't want. People need to be able to control their games accurately. I don't think anyone wants to end up like Nintendo has -- with the casual gamer missing and the core gamer disinterested because they feel like they got shat on. In other words: they need to remember who butters their bread.
As far as my dollar, no. Regardless, the next gen will definitely mean more revenue for devs despite games being good or crap. There are a lot of gamers with money to burn screaming 'take my money' to anything that promises better graphics and new technology. Blocking used games and increase in digital downloads vs physical media will not stop wealthy gamers from indulging to be the 1st to play a new $500 console.
With devs milking gamers with DLC scams like this, endless remakes / sequels, it's safe to say billions will be made Day 1 of PS4 and XBox 720. Eventually more and more gamers will smarten up over time, rant, online protest and more. But they will never outnumber the amount of gamers who do not go to youtube and gaming sites. And those are the consumers devs will make the most money from.
Casual gamers will always be the huge majority. So yes, even this gen will do alright.
Imagine i'll hate it though.
I think it's going to do alright but since I haven't seen anything yet I'll reserve judgement till I do.
Creating all these super-duper graphics that everyone is expecting will cost a lot of money. Development costs will skyrocket (again) and as we're seeing so clearly right now, publishers are as risk-averse as it gets. If it's not guaranteed to sell X million copies at launch, it'll never get made in the first place.
Simple math.
I'm cautiously optimistic. I think the games themselves will be better than ever, it's the business models companies are taking that have me somewhat concerned.

Then ignore the companies with business models you disapprove of and dig deeper for creative games in genres you are not familiar with? ;)
As far as the AAA industry goes, I think things are just going to get more derivative and safe. Cap everything off with microtransactions and things aren't looking good for the consumer.
I think it will be just fine but it will have to do something a bit different. The whole motion control thing was just a fad, it's now on it's way out. And the FPS genre can't remain so over saturated either. I think next gen will be interesting to say the least, some new ideas will come out no doubt.
All I can say is I'm going with PS4 and Wii U. I have no interest in the next Xbox unless they make some big changes.
