so turns out my ps3 ccontroller i fot from e-bay was fake, big surprise, now it doesn't work (it never did work great) and i want to buy a new one. i want a white dualshock 3, but as i live in the UK, they're unavailble, so i looked online and found play-asia. the sight looks fine and the price is like a real controller. but i wonder, as i have never used this one before, will it be a real sony controller? or just a knock-off?

P.S. if i used the wrong forum than i am sorry, i didn't know where this should go.

Play-Asia is great. I've imported three games from them, and a silver Dual Shock 3. They are 100% reliable.

Play-Asia is just fine, I have never had a problem with them. Shipping prices are reasonable, delivery times are phenominal.

I can vouch for them as well. I've only imported a few PS2 and DS games from them, but I never had any issues with them. Everything came within a timely manner. Highly recommended.

I personally never ordered from that site, but I have a lot of friends who do and none of them ever had a bad experience with the site.

I do a TON of business with them (they've seen about $1500 from me in the last month and a half). They're extremely professional.

I got one of those too. I love my white PS2 controller! But those darn import games are so expensive...plus I wish I can speak Japanese to play some of the text-heavy ones. But I do have Macross, even though that also has tons of text. Anyway, I bought it for Macross, Samurai Shodown games, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, and King of Fighters XI, which cost me $70 each! Than the following year, SNK brings all of them and Samurai Shodown Anthology to the US for $20 each! Yeah, I was bummed. Oh well, at least I still have Macross which BLOWS AWAY the TDK Robotech game, which was terrible! By the way DC, do you speak Japanese? If so, than all the power to you. You probably get more mileage with your J-PS2 than I do!

I'm still a long way from fluent, but I know enough to get by. My library, as you would expect, is mostly fighting games, but I'm starting to latch onto the great racers we've missed out on as well (particularly Sega Rally 2006 and Initial D). Sega Rally is probably the most text-heavy game I have thus far, and although I'll need to find a translation guide for some aspects of the career mode before I can fully enjoy it, the arcade mode in and of itself is giving me the Sega Rally experience that Revo failed to. That we got Revo over here and not 2006 (especially with that bonus disc) is a travesty, as well as a testament to just how screwed up the industry is over here. Also, I'm not finding games to be all that expensive. Maybe a bit compared to over here, but I'm paying $25-35 for most of what I buy. It also helps to keep an eye on eBay. The only game I've really found to be cost-prohibitive so far is Mushihimesama, which I won't pay $200 for no matter how good it is.

It's a crying shame that a lot of the great SHMUPs don't come here! I get ticked off everytime a awesome SHMUP gets announced because I know it'll never get localized. Just like how the 360 XBL in Japan has some great SHMUP titles. It kind of sucks that we don't get any of those.

By the way, I have to pick up Fist of the North Star. But I wonder if it's out of print now.

Also, I'm going by some of Play-Asia prices. I wonder if the prices dropped for some of these games I want. Plus, it doesn't help I'm getting some of these games from insanely expensive anime stores, like the ones in the malls. Some of their prices are ridiculous.

And I bet Sega Rally 2006 is much better than Revo. Revo was okay but it's disheartening when the PSP version is actually better. The tracks are way to short and it get repetitive. It should've been better.

Yeah, I'm kicking the tires on a J-360 as well. Probably buying one as soon as my three payments for this season's NHL Center Ice package go through. One shmup I can personally recommend right now is Thunder Force VI. It's a bit pricey at $70, but I'm getting my money's worth. Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star is still very much available. It was recently put on THE BEST line (Japanese Greatest Hits for those who don't know), and was one of the five games I bought with my console last month. Interesting game. I admit I can kind of see why it wasn't brought here. Same with Sengoku Basara X. Sega Rally 2006...imagine Rallisport Challenge with Sega Rally 2's handling and arcade structure, but with a nice detailed career mode thrown on top of that. It has also taken some pages from the books of Gran Turismo (car detail and presentation) and Ridge Racer (overall sense of style). The courses are supposed to be fairly short (0:50-1:30) as per the rest of the series, but Sega Rally games are supposed to handle MUCH better than Revo did. I want AM3 back. Oh yeah, SR2006 also has a bonus disc - Sega Rally Championship ported to the PS2 with enhanced graphics and 480p capability. I spend just as much time on that as I do 2006 itself. All these years and I still get trashed at Lakeside. :(

Darn, DC! All this Play-Asia talk forced me to order something today!

Well, I'm glad I did. There are a few games I always wanted and they're all in that "Best Collection" now. So it's cheap!

Except for that new Macross Frontier game. I wanted Ace Frotier but the Ultimate one is coming out in a week. The dilemma? Ace Frontier is in the Best Collection and cheap but the new one is full price, but it's better.

Arrgh! Sometimes I hate sequels. :(

Sequels are good. They ensure that the games we love get as good as they can be. Anyway, it's obvious that you're going to get the Ultimate version sooner or later, so why not either preorder that, or get the cheap version now and Ultimate later?

We'll have to talk at length about PS2 imports when I don't have to get to work ASAP...I need to find some stuff to play beyond the fighters/racers/Sega Ages I'm currently hoarding.

(Heh...Arcade series 4 in SR2006 is the SR1 group of courses...nice.)

From your earlier post, I totally forgot about that Basura fighting game. I think it was claimed as Capcom's last 2D game or something like that. I think I'm going to get that! Also, I'm still on the fence about the Fist of the North Star game. I know it looks great but I'm still deciding on that one. Also, just one last question DC: you know a lot about fighting games, much more than I do, so just wondering what other fighters do you recommend or enjoy? Basically, anything but Street Fighter or King of Fighters since I probably already have those. After Basura X and Fist of the North Star, I really don't know the other obscure but good fighting games for the J-PS2. Any help would be great!

MELTY BLOOD: ACTRESS AGAIN. Can't emphasize it enough. This game is one of the main reasons I bought a J-PS2. It takes the combo potential of games like Guilty Gear and injects the sanity of a Street Fighter. I think of it as a modern Darkstalkers. It's also based on the anime series Lunar Legend Tsukihime (a fun if short watch). Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Probably a no brainer, PS2 version is the best one. Bakumatsu Roman Collection. AKA Last Blade. Even includes English Language option (total conversion). Fate/Unlimited Codes. NOT that piece of crap for the PSP, but the real Fate/Unlimited Codes. Kind of an acquired taste, but enjoyable. Like Melty Blood, it has origins in the Type-Moon continuity. And although you said not to worry about KOF in this list, I have to shine a spotlight on 2002 Unlimited Match and Maximim Impact Regulation A. Both are absolutely amazing games and should be mandatory purchases for any KOF fan. There's also a nice Darkstalkers Collection to be had.

I once ordered a soundtrack on play-asia and it came in just fine. I also ordered a couple of small d-pads for the PSP and they arrived without a hitch. So I can definitely confirm that it is safe to order there.

[QUOTE="ASK_Story"]Also, just one last question DC: you know a lot about fighting games, much more than I do, so just wondering what other fighters do you recommend or enjoy? Basically, anything but Street Fighter or King of Fighters since I probably already have those. After Basura X and Fist of the North Star, I really don't know the other obscure but good fighting games for the J-PS2. Any help would be great! DarkCatalyst
Thanks! I think from those, the ones I can afford is Last Blade collection. Melty Blood is still a little pricey...maybe once the price goes down (which I doubt it would). I have the other ones already...yes, the PSP Fate/Code version. I like it though. And I have the PSP Darkstalkers and Garou on XBL/Dreamcast. So I don't think I need another one of that. But I love the Last Blade series. So I guess that's the one I'll pick up along with Hokuto No Ken and Basara X. Also one final note, I wanted some SHMUPs but the prices are absolutely ridiculous! Some go for $80 minimum! Crazy! And no matter how cool Thunder Force VI is, I don't feel it's worth it to pay $60 for 6 levels that last a minute or two.

Melty Blood is pricy because it just came out last month. It'll be there awhile, and the only drop I see it taking is off the earth, rather than in price. I bit on TF6...good game. I'll get my money's worth.

Reliable as reliable can be. Ordered Okami and RB2 drums from them, both in good condition but I've learned to use FedEx whenever you order from them.

Hey DC, been checking out some more Melty Blood vids on Youtube. It really does look great! The animation is superb! I don't know much about this series and there are two on the PS2. Is Actress Again basically a enhanced version? Like the same game as Act Cadenza just with more characters, levels, content, etc.? If so, I'm thinking about picking this up! Again, thanks for all this tremendous help! Ever since I bought my J-PS2 a couple years ago, I love the system but I still felt like I wasted money on it because of the lack of games. If I get some more, it'll definitely give me my money's worth!

More accurately, Actress Again is the 3rd Strike to Act Cadenza's 2nd Impact.

I preferred Lik-Sang, but after their demise it was nice to see Play-Asia was a more than viable alternative for me. I've ordered about a dozen items from them over the last few years, and they've always been very reliable.

Sweet. What with me closing in on 40 games after my next paycheck, just let me know if you need any more shopping advice. :) This has really been like rediscovering gaming for me.

Wow! 40 games? After my little buying spree, I'll only have like 14! Just curious, what are some of the titles you have? I'm not asking for your whole library but among those, and other than the ones you already recommended to me, what should I look into? Here are what I bought...and planning to purchase: Macross King of Fighters XI Neo Geo Battle Coliseum Samurai Spirtis V Samurai Spirits VI Planning to purchase: Melty Blood Actress Again Last Blade Collection Basara X Hokuto No Ken And I'm thinking about getting Thunder Force VI after all. It just looks so damn cool! I need more things than just fighting too. Also, I already have Garou for XBL so I really don't need another one. Anyway, what else do you think I should check out? I'll trust your judgment!

The Nights remake is really good, and you can't go wrong with Virtual On. In fact, I'm sure I'll have a good chunk of the Sega Ages line by the time I'm done buying. Sega Rally 2006 is also a good buy especially because of the bonus disc - Sega Rally Championship sharpened up for PS2, even with 480p. I'll be buying Puyo Puyo Perfect Set in my next order.

Cool! I just picked up Raiden IV tonight. Yeah, I know it's on the 360 but I couldn't resist!

Also, I got pretty lucky and snagged Thunder Force VI today on time. I think it was one of the last copies too! I checked again later today and the game wasn't in stock anymore. I was on the fence with this one and wondered if I should get it or not because of the price. But it was already on discount and I figured J-SHMUPs are incredibly hard to come by so I thought it was now or never. I'm glad I ordered it before it was too late.

Oh yeah, I also got Melty Blood Actress Again. Had to get it after you recommended it. I'm sure it's gonna rock! :)

By the way, have you played the PS2 Macross game? Even though it's from Namco it was made by Sega AM2. Because of that it's like After Burner during the plane segments and Virtua On during the Battleroid segments. I just noticed the similarities in these games.

I find them generally safe. Reliable, however, is a different matter. Their support for their GunCon, etc products has been pretty terrible. They downright refused to release working drivers for Vista for GunCon, and instead made a Vista compatible GunCon2. No way that was a marketing move...
