The overwhelming power of Playstation 3 has led the PS2 into the back where it's soon to be forgotten. No more great titles for PS2 users?...

Happens every time a new console comes out. Kinda of sad really. Lets take a moment to mourn the passing of the PS2. Whilst it isn't dead yet, it will inevitably happen.

Sony actually kept supporting the PS2 very well after the PS3 came out. MS dropped the XBOX like it was on fire, and Nintendo hobbled GC releases to steer customers towards Wii versions, but Sony kept on releasing games... even high-profile titles like God of War 2. Oh course, it could be argued that they did this because they didn't have enough PS3's in homes NOT to...

First,of course, even if the PS2 sales are still MUCH higher. And second, hey do you still want weak PS2 to next gen ports,or the other way around.Worse egnough that Mercenaries 2 is coming to PS2 which almost means it´s crappy on the PS2 and doesn´t use the technology on PS3/360 or it´s good on PS2 and even more low-level-next-gen on PS3/360.

Plus, the PS2 was technically weak the day it came out,it got several years on it´s back,so there is the end more then needed if you want to technically advance in gaming. The main reason most people will miss the PS2 because it´s easy to copy games. Those who buy only Originals already got a PS3 or 360 and don´t care what system they´re playing on.The only reason I´ll miss thelast genare 2D games.

Actually, it's the only machine of the old guard that wasn't deliberately killed as soon as it's successor came out. It's about time.

I see plenty of PS2 releases in the future. There are even more than the ones that DarkCatalyst listed.

Every time I tell myself that I'm done with the previous generation I always end up picking up more games for it. Just recently I grabbed Valkyrie Profile 2 and am currently looking for Persona 3 although I seem to be having trouble trying to find it. I'll probably end up grabbing any and all of those fighting games that I can find.

...

You're kidding, right? Microsoft made games for the Xbox for 3 and a half years... and you somehow think that the PS2 is being "neglected" because it was only supported for more than seven years?

The PS2's support is strong enough that I'm extremely thankful for the PS3's near perfect B/C.

Well... in all fairness it should be tapered off and focus be brought about to the PS3. Just be glad they didn't unceremoniously dump support for it like the Xbox and Gamecube did.

I'd personally be pissed if the PS2 was still the focus of development after buying a PS3 like I did.

Really? I've heard the software emulation on the PS3 is still pretty decent. I made sure to grab one with the EE, but I thought I'd heard that after a couple quick updates the software emu was working pretty well.

I believe that even after updating there are several high-profile games that still run poorly or not at all.

Any gamer who values ease of playing PS2 classics should get a 60 gig PS3 with the EE chip in it while they still can.

Thing is, the PS2 doesn't need to keep going. The Wii, 360 and PS3 are all out, and approaching their first post-Christmas launch, so we're well into the current generation. However, the fact that we are still getting PS2 releases in 2007 is great. It's a great system, and they don't really have any trouble holding their own against newer games. The PS2 is still probably the most versatile controller on the market.

I did some pretty rudimentary looking around and found this. It seems there are indeed some high-profile titles that don't work or have major issues, but the overall percentage of compatable games is pretty good.

It's bound to happen, look what happend when the PS2 came out, they stopped making games for the PS1. So after the PS3 the same thing will happen, unless they find a way to upgrade your console without selling it.

A big "ouch" for MGS2, MGS3, and FFX, three of my favorite PS2 games.

Last I checked the PS2 was selling better than the PS3. But yeah it's pretty much done as far as new titles.
