n64 had the  3d controls like dino crisis, and extra files, but compressed videos and load times, which was odd for a cartridge. all in all id say the gamecube was the superior release
I vote PlayStation.
N64 is 'smoother' but I think the extra visible pixels on the PlayStation actually help the 'gritty' / 'bloody' nature. PlayStation also has the extra storage capacity which should help with sound effects and music.

firstly, the Dreamcast version is the best, it has a higher resolution than both sharper textures, etc , even if it is just a port of the PC version (which itself was a pretty obvious console port)
Â
now, as for the N64 and PS1 versions, its a mixed bag, the PS1 has a higher texture quality, better sound quality, better FMV quality and slightly sharper backgrounds.
Â
on the other hand, the N64 version has smoother looking characters, who are also better defined, along with a better resolution in some places due to the expansion pack. also it has some extra content and the nice bonus of not needing to swap any discs , since both characters are on the cartridge
Â
its really a mixed bag , I like both though for whatever reason I like the N64 version more.
I prefer the N64 version purely based on nostalgia. I've played both and they're pretty similar, can't go wrong with either one.
I have the playstation version. So that is my vote. I never played the Nintendo 64 version. The Nintendo 64 has slighty better graphics so if that mattters
I've only got Resident Evil 2 for the PS1 can't really tell the differance if I had it on another console
It was made with the PlayStation in mind so if you want a "faithful" version get that one.
Just don't expect good graphics or modern controls...
Not this question!
Eh,i'd say N64.
Better graphics and sound.

to be fair the N64 version is smoother, and doesn't suffer from the distortion found on the PS1 (even if its limited, due to the limited amount of characters) still blurrier thoughFor some reason.... the answer is N64 easily. I loved this game on that console. Maybe it was a superior feeling that I got having the new red graphic enhancer thing that came around that time.... lol That mixed with Nostalgia. I still remember getting that game for Christmas and thinking how cool it was that my parents would buy me such a "mature" game... :P I'm not sure how old I was when I got it... anybody know the release date for the N64 version?
I dont want to do any research right this second... Does anybody remember the chip or whatever it was that replaced the grey one inside the N64? Did it come with RE2?
lol... broken memories, I'm getting old :P
Seriously though, I own both now, and it is one of if not the ONLY game I prefer on a nintendo console with anything after the SNES.
lol no get the n64 version the controls are alot easier to handle r and z easy as that movment with stick lol  ,   ps1 had this wierd x square  configuration i couldnt under stand haha beat it on my psvita twice though , and i gotta say the n64 version looks alot better , even then the original plus you gotta swap discs , sorry thats even a hassle on the gamecube for which i couldnt find the copy of recvx nor 2 on gc those are rarer then 3 4 0 and 1  and the gc looks better then both , so if i were you id get the gamecube version if you can find itÂ
The "chip" you are probably referring to is the cartridge-like accessory called the Expansion pack. I don't know what year the game came out on the N64 system though. For some reason.... the answer is N64 easily. I loved this game on that console. The only positive the n64 has over the psx version are the loading cues. There are times in the psx version when you can hear the drive, or the game stuttering, when an event is about to unfold. Other than that the N64 game is a muddy mess and sounds like you are listening to it underwater.Heirrenwell | wouldn't say its that bad, it has its problems, but its not a bad port by any means.

And while the graphics might have been a bit smoother, there's no way on Jah's Green Earth the audio was better on the N64. Not that the audio was spectacularly recorded or produiced in the first place...

oh yeah I agree on the audio , it was decent but certainly not as good. though I have to give credit where its due, the simple fact its there is a miracle, given that almost every other N64 has limited speech and no FMVs, the fact its there is something to admire. have you ever played Command and Conquer on the N64? if you didn't the mission briefings show how iffy some of the voices can get, in the mission briefings, the FMVs were removed, and replaced with still images with the voice acting, but its so compressed it sounds like when you put a tape on fast forward. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYx0A6Zzv_o if you go to about 1.50 , you will see what I mean, you have to admit the conversion in RE2 was better than this. The only positive the n64 has over the psx version are the loading cues. playstation. also, i saw this topic a few months ago.

Yea, and you'll see it again a few months from now probably...
The N64 version had Dolby Surround sound added to if IIRC.
The sound in that version was handled by Factor 5s legendary soundsmith Chris Huelsbeck.
I think they mean the voices , and I agree on that , having listened to all 3 main versions, the N64 does have the weakest sound in terms of voices. the music is fine for the most part. I can't take advantage of any surround sound, but the music is fine. The N64 version had Dolby Surround sound added to if IIRC.
