It's a love or hate title. Personally it is one of my favorite titles and maybe one of the best PS2 titles.
It's one of the finest games of the last generation.
You have to accept the game on it's own terms - you can't go into it expecting another God of War or Zelda title.
Of course this depends on what you like, but I think it's an amazing game. Gave me tons of play time in the past.

yes, it gets a whole lot better! the 1st is the weakest and easiest to defeat. it gets more difficult as you progress. also, they get faster, bigger, and even smarter. try beating 1 or 2 more to give it another chance.
It's probably my favorite game on the PS2 but I can see how some people can find it too slow moving or boring. The game isn't hard, I don't think I ever actually died before the last boss but I was just blown away by everything. So if you haven't gotten into it by the 3rd boss I don't see it getting any better for you.
It depends on what your into. People that play Gears of War, Halo, and Call of Duty tend to be more entertained by instant gratification. They won't get that with SotC. It's a slow, albeit beautiful journey through an amazing land in order to take down just a handful of "enemies". My brother plays FPS's almost exclusively. He kept asking me if I could upgrade my armor/get new weapons/do more than just ride a horse in SotC and I said no, not really. He didn't like it at all. Chances are that the people who play those frantic games like FPS's aren't fascinated by games like SotC, Ico, or Indigo Prophecy. That's not a bad thing, it's just a matter of taste and opinion.
This game is one of the best ever.......I like how that the story is simple and not very deep, but it way more effective than much deeper stories. This game is basically how far you would go to bring something back you lost.
Love or hate title? Your kidding right? Most people though it was one of the best games of 2005, anyway though its a great game imo, one of the best games ever? Nope, but still a good game. It's a love or hate title. Personally it is one of my favorite titles and maybe one of the best PS2 titles.

[QUOTE="NBSRDan"]No. It's very boring. Don't even waste your time playing it. Get rid of it via whatever method gets you the most money, and never think about it again.ASK_StoryI hope you're kidding.I am advising someone on better use of their valuable time. Why would you hope that I jest?

Why would you hope that I jest? To each his/her own, but no matter how you look at it, Shadow of the Colossus is considered by many pro reviewers and game developers as a masterpiece. It dominated during GDC awards that same year it was released, killing God of War. I guess some people hate it. But you can't deny it's mastery and originality in game design.
i bought about a month ago because i heard from a lot of people it was good but i couldnt get into it kenave
quality doesn't always equal satisfation.
No matter how much people praise a game, if you don't like it you don't like it.
SoC is not a game for action oriented people who needs to shoot something every second. It is a mellow puzzle/adventure/platform game. Mostly mellow and puzzle.
I found Call of Duty games boring. I've found Half Life 2 boring. I've found Portal boring.
I thought Ico was pretty good, but I didn't really dig SotC that much. If holding onto the fur of various beasts while they thrash around is your thing then SotC is a great game I guess...SpaceMoose
actually, you've just described how the game connected players, emotionally, and physically to the colossi. this is great storytelling through game mechanics.

I really don't see any logic in that (ICO fanboys seem pretty strange). I truly hope you're not one of those guys who regard the game as "pure work of art" or "masterpiece".[QUOTE="just_nonplussed"][QUOTE="SpaceMoose"]I thought Ico was pretty good, but I didn't really dig SotC that much. No, if it was once or twice maybe I would have bought that argument, but that was basically the whole game.[QUOTE="just_nonplussed"][QUOTE="SpaceMoose"]I thought Ico was pretty good, but I didn't really dig SotC that much. I always find it odd when people say that about SOTC (Can't say much about Ico, havent played it cause you can't find it) because I never had that connection and usually with games I can see how people would regard them so highly but not with SOTC, I just can't see how it can be regarded so highly.[QUOTE="just_nonplussed"][QUOTE="SpaceMoose"]I thought Ico was pretty good, but I didn't really dig SotC that much. anyway, i have no idea why i'm even trying to explain this still, but it's not something you're probably concious on when playing the game. its effect is more psychological. 'R1' is the grip ability and if you let go you fall. the challange is to always hold on. do you not see the emotional tennacity in that?

well, this just blows my mind... i'm not sure what to say.
