is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (GC) the best sonic ever in 3d?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
No. Absolutely not. Two thirds of the game is just pure trash. The Sonic/Shadow levels are good for the most part, but the non sonic levels are so bad it's not even funny. The speed levels dont even make up one third of the game since those levels are way shorter than the other levels. Both the original Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes are much more consistantly good games. So is Sonic and the Secret Rings for that matter. You cant even just do the speed levels unlike sonic adventure either. At least in sa1 you could do sonics story and then the other stories if you wanted to. In sa2 you have to go through the terrible levels to get to the good ones. It really is a shame because if the whole game was made up of the sonic/shadow levels it would have been amazing. 30 speed levels in a row instead of 10 of each gameplay type would have made this one of the best 3d platformers ever.
No Sonic Adventure DX is a lot better. The Sonic/Tales levels were more fun to play and the finding the emerald levels weren't so big and annoying. The Adventure Field could get annoying but I found the overall game to be more fun. People complain about Big the Cat ruining it and while he is by no means fun his stages are incredibly short since the Frog was almost always right there in front of me. TheColbertthe best part of DX was unlocking the old SMS games. the game itself had quite a few glitches and felt undone. it was an awesome game regardless
original was better
sonic was sonic
tails was similar to sonic but you could take huge shortcuts by flying and you had to race sonic
knuckles was fun
amy was annoying and SLOW
E-102 was a fun little offshoot, his story takes around 1 hour to beat
big was just ugh i've never gotten SS by myself because of that damn cat
It always boggles my mind how everyone complains about the non-sonic levels in Sonic Ad. 2 yet everyone excepted it and even liked it in Sonic Ad. 1.
Yes, part 1 is better but I dont know how you can like Knuckles Gem hunting and E-102s shooting levels here and then hate them in part 2. I dont even wanna mention the fishing. I liked both games but as far as the best 3D Sonic goes....I have to pick Secret Rings. Its fast, no cheap deaths and only Sonic.
Because in SA1 they weren't that bad with the exception of big the cat. In SA2 they were absolutely awful. It's as simple as that. Plus I think the fact in SA1 you can play through just the sonic story without doing the other stories is a big reason it wasn't as bad as sa2. SA2 forced you to play the crappy levels to get to the good ones. SA1 didn't do that. And yes the knuckles and shooting levels are way better in sa1. They aren't as big and dont last as long. They're not really any good but they're not complete torture to play and aren't frustrating. I'm not defending the non sonic levels in sa1 btw. It would have been a much better game if it was all sonic levels, but there's no denying compared to the non sonic levels in sa2 they're a blessing with the exception of big the cats story. It always boggles my mind how everyone complains about the non-sonic levels in Sonic Ad. 2 yet everyone excepted it and even liked it in Sonic Ad. 1.

While they were the same in what you were doing I felt Sonic Adventure DX had a better stage layout for the Gem Hunting/Shooting levels. The Knuckle levels in 2 ended up getting to big and very frustrating. I remember that the space level took way to much time to beat.It always boggles my mind how everyone complains about the non-sonic levels in Sonic Ad. 2 yet everyone excepted it and even liked it in Sonic Ad. 1.

You still had to complete everyones storyline to unlock Super Sonic and get the true ending. The Non-Sonic levels in part 2 may have been longer but you still did the same thing (with the exception of Amy and Big since they werent playable).
As much as I love Sonic, I must admit I hated Tails' gameplay in part 1. All you ever did was race Sonic to the goal and if you messed up, pretty much just once by missing a hoop or something, youd have no chance and have to restart. That and Ive always hated beat the clock style gameplay.
Plus it was kinda strange that Sonic would purposely try to beat Tails and keep him from saving the world.
dont get me started on Knuckles missions and what ever that bat thing was
those were just terrible
would have been better with just shadow/sonic levels

I dont think that's that big a deal. It's only one boss fight you're unlocking at the end of the day. Sonic heroes did this way worse by forcing you to get all the chaos emeralds to unlock the true ending. I dont know one person that did that. It was insanely hard and not fun in the least trying to get the chaos emeralds. That doesn't make the whole game bad though, and it's still easily better than the sonic adventure games even though I've never seen the true ending for sonic heroes. As for the the ones in sa1 and sa2 doing the same thing, that's not really fair. It wasn't frustrating in sa1. If a two year old kicks me in the leg ten ten times I'll tolerate it and there's not much of an issue there because there's no pain. If a fifteen year old comes and kicks me in the leg ten times you can bet your life I'll have a big problem with it. Much like the non sonic levels in sa2 compared to sa1, yes they're both doing the same thing but only one is going to cause PAIN!But then again I'll take your word for it if the tails levels were that frustrating for you as well as other non sonic stories that weren't knuckless and shooting levels. I personally didn't have much of an issue with most of the non sonic levels in sa1. It was just big the cat that was frustrating for me. Yes I even enjoyed Amys story. Didn't really like knuckles or the robot stories but they weren't frustrating so they didn't bother me that much. Loved sonics story, loved tails story, enjoyed amys story somewhat, knuckles story was tolerable, robot whose name I cant remember was tolerable and big the cats story was as awful as the knuckles levels in sa2. The only good thing about it is that it's over quickly, unlike the non sonic levels in sa2.
IDK, its in between that and the original on dreamcast/gamecube for me.
But I guess Id say yea, simply cuz of how much better the Chao garden was in the gamecube version, plus it had epic multiplayer. (me and my friend when we were younger would just play treasuer hunt and just basically have fights to the death :P)
Great music? I hope you're joking. Though if you are comparing it to the newest ones, fair enough. Just rap rap rap rap rap. But generic music isn't good either.Yes its fantastic, great music,, great gameplay, great platforming, I even liked the story

I agree. I was in love with that game. Had at least a hundred hours put in, probably a lot more. And it had the best Chaos Garden ever.

Getting all the chaos emeralds in Sonic Heroes was easy...as long as you used Team Rose that is. Thier special zones are quick, hardly have any enemies and almost border on being too easy. Overall thier story mode was the easiest also. Using any other team to get the emeralds wouldbeway too hard. Seriously, if you still have the game or want too, youll have no problem getting them with Team Rose. Thats how I did it.
I understand what you mean about the non sonic levels in SA2 being worse, but they didnt bother me as much as they did for most other poeple. Except for a few that were pretty much unfair, like Tails space level (forgot the zone name). Way too many enemies and traps like doors youd accident shoot and be sucked into.
Like I said way back in my original reply, Sonic Ad. 1 is better than part 2. No argument from me there. I was just mentioning how people likedthe non-sonic levels at first and then started complaining. Sonic Adventure is one of my favorite Sonic games. Aside from Tails' beat-sonic storymode and the boring fishing its a great game. Plus like you said even Amy's story was ok and kinda fun at times.

Interesting. I might try that. I thought the special stages were the same for every team.It was a great game and I spent over 50 hours playing it on my gamecube. However, I'd have to say that the original Sonic Adventure (for Dreamcast) was the best 3d Sonic. I liked its levels better and I enjoyed walking around between stages in a central hub.
