Isn't it Obvious? Its says "Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen" right on the box. 8)

Blood Omen was the original Kain story, then afterwards they came up with the whole subplot with Raziel known as the Soul Reaver story. Imo the first 2 games are the best: Blood Omen 1 and Soul Reaver 1.

The first 2 games are definitely awesome, though I did enjoy playing the others, they were far too short. The subplot of Raziel was ended quite nicely in the final game, at least the whole series has a decent focus on storyline.

Chronological Order:

Blood Omen > Blood Omen 2 >Soul Reaver > Soul Reaver 2 > Defiance

Order of Release:

Blood Omen > Soul Reaver > Soul Reaver 2 > Blood Omen 2 > Defiance

Good story to conclude the series, bad game, with Hennig and Lemarchand on their way out to join Naughty Dog,CD was basically trying to make it into something closer to DMC and it failed miserably, ditching the free camera was the biggest mistake they had made. The game design just wasn't up to par and I blame that on Riley Cooper since he was the lead designer, granted Amy ultimately has to take responsibility for a failed product but she was more of a writer.

well defiance was 100000x better than blood omen 2, and i actually preferred it to SR2 as well, but mostly because it sort of wrapped things up. not completely but more so than without it. either way at this point i really onlyreminisce about BO1 and SR1, with BO1 being the best in the series

Fuzzy memories aside I think SR1 (which I replayed a few months ago) is a much better game than BO1. I'm not sure at this point after gaming has gone so far in 3D, controls and accessible mechanics that BO1 can even be considered a good game aside from putting on some BS nostalgic goggles. BO1 could be considered a good game for its time but in 2007? Is it even playable? Hell no.

blood omen 1 was an absolute masterpeice. it captured the darkness of kain in a way that none of the other games did. the game had some of the best mood setting music i have ever been witness to. the zelda ****hack and slash with rpg elements were such a nice alternative to the much lighter zelda games. to consider it not playable is odd to me, and most of the fans i talk to over on some of the LoK sites. the only issue with replaying it is load times.

ill give you by todays standards SR1 is more familiar but i really don't see how that is relevant to its quality. many obsolete games are still good. would you call the original dragon warrior a bad game because the genre has evolved miles past it? either way most people prefer the first two games and its a matter of preference, but for me it was the mood of the original that blew me away. its not a nostalgia thing, its the essense of kain that i do not feel is captured as well in the rest of the series. i actually want to play it again now.. if i had the time amidst all these other games. ill probably fire it up in a couple months though. its been a while.

soul reaver was really great as well. i happened to like all of the games in the series, with the exception of blood omen 2. i mean i completed it, enjoyed a few parts (the prison level was great). but the quality of the game was horrid (voices not synching, slowdown, glitches) and i really felt it was a filler game.

soul reaver 2 had potential but it was mutilated down into a joke of a game in order to release in time. sadly this happened to SR1 also but we still got a great game out of it.defiance on the other hand, while nomasterpiece, i felt was pretty well made. i didnt run into the problems like BO2, and i found the action to be decent. while i usually dislike games which switch who you are controlling, i felt it was done well in defiance, and the game did at least wrap things up somewhat. i know with Henning gone the story would never see its proper end, but as bad as it could have turned out, defiance was decent.

all in all i kind of look at the series as just the first 2 games, and try to remember it at that. when you have oddities such as with vorador and other timeline problems it became pretty convoluted and tarnished things a bit.
