For those not already in the know, the Xbox 360's "Jasper" hardware revision may spell doom for the infamous Red Ring of Death. This hardware revision's CPU and GPU are both 65 nm and the system draws less power. Less heat and lower power consumption are conditions which will hopefully obliterate the RRoD issue and make buying Xbox 360s much safer, as the failure rate will hopefully be lower.

They haven't been around long enough to tell if they can have the RRoD problem, but you can find the details here.

Falcon's already handled the RRoD fairly well, lowering the failure rates almost to that of the normal failure rate of a 3rd year system.

I don't know much about this sort of thing, but will playing games off my hard drive via NXE also help avert RROD? I have one of the original Pro SKU's with old chipset and I'm going on my 9th month with it, so that's really the only hope I have of it never dying on me (I plan on upgrading to a 120GB HDD fairly soon, so I'll have more than enough space to do this).

If you happen to get the RRoD, when you send it in i think they'll send you back a Jasper console (it only makes sense doesn't it?). The Jasper consoles are said to be really good but they can't find an accurate failure rate yet because they have been out for too long but from clips on youtube you can see the difference. I was pretty glad to to know that microsoft came out with the NXE update so that you can store and run games off your xbox hdd. It makes an incredible difference in noise, and how much heat is created. Also load times are quicker when your loading from the HDD then the actuall disk.

Microsoft might have to come out with larger HDD if that's what they want to do to prevent over heating issues.

So in all i'd buy a Jasper and then put games ( the one that make the most noise , or the ones im addicted to =P ) onto the hard drive. Play and your good for a looong time.

Heres a video you might wanna see : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvt0NPIQCYo

Doubt it, the game is still running on the hardware, except that it reads from the HDD. However, it strains the drive less, which is always a plus.

Well it's about time MS got it fixed. It's typical, RROD seems to be a thing of the past but after 3 RROD's, now my 360 is having trouble reading discs! And I'm not sure if the 3 year warranty covers that. Thank god for the hard drive install even though I can only install 1 game at a time.

You still need your disc drive to work to play games from your HDD. Or else people would just rent games for like 5 bucks then , store them on thier consoles..

*sigh* I used to do that on my xbox (original) but then i accidently bricked it :(

This!!

Mine is perfect and i've been playing it for about 6 months. My only problem with it is that it wont play any game unless it was installed. Most games get stuck so quickly they are not copied, especially fable 2.

As good as MS has been at taking care of those who have had a RRoD, it's disappointing that they have yet to release an official "This is exactly what was wrong, and this is exactly how we've fixed the problem for good" statement. That is the only way they'll put this whole debacle to rest.

You know it's not just the smaller chip size, it's actually a new process where they use lead solder joints that are stronger and less thermal shock resistant too? From what I understand it is more or less solved. Of course you'll get a few bad apples, but then nothing is perfect.

Some thing that has been picking at me is that Microsoft is said to release ANOTHER motherboard this fall. Its called the Valhalla i believe and it's supposed to be even beter then the Jasper. I think it comebines the GPU and CPU together on one motherboard ( im not too sure i forgot but you can search it) and that way it takes less space, meaning that it will only need 1 fan, and it , will use less energy, Also if this is done they can change the design of the xbox ( im not sure if there going to). We could also see price drops because if the CPU and GPU (what ever it was) were combined together on 1...thing.. then it would cost less for them to manufacture. and then if they were nice, they could lower the price.
