Well, i've bought my 2nd 2d fighting game. The first was MK1 and the second is MK9. Obviously a lot has happen to the genre in that time. Well, even though the reviews say that MK9 combat has been scaled back, trying to pull off strings/juggles/wall combos seems like a thing that requires a heck of a lot of practice and time. There is a lot of precision involved and timing involved. More so than i first imagined.

With that said, i feel like i'll never get great at this game, MK9. I dont know if things will change when i get a controller that has a better D pad for the 360. So, what games do you guys feel the same way about?

Tekken 6. It may not be complex to some, but for some reason I just can't get the hang of chaining together combos that well.

Anything in the X series, I like them but they are as hard to understand as trying to ride a bicycle on a downhill while trying to juggle a baby panda, an apple and a flag.

Starcraft 2 I have been following the game for a while, and I enjoyed playing Starcraft series since the original, but I doubt I could ever master it. The game just has so much variability and skill involved.

Yeah, that and Hearts of Iron series. I've finally planted my feet in it but I don't think I'll ever be "great" at it. On the other hand, the X series games click really well with me.. while people have complained that they're too complex. For some reason, it's intuitive for me and I pick up on it right away. Very weird if you ask me.

Pretty much anything that isn't a FPS or RPG is unknown territory for me sadly.

I suck at RTS and Fighting games in particular, Bayonetta, Blazblue, Starcraft and Total War :P

Any fighting game out there.

And Resonance of Fate. My brain failed to comprehend that game's combat engine so bad, I had to trade it in towards something else. I wanted to learn it, I wanted to like it, but the game beat me to a pulp. I 'd

For the new MK, using the D-pad more often than using the analog stick really helped me out a great deal. It's much easier pulling together breakers, x-ray chains and combos. At first when I was using just the analog stick, I was getting frustrated because of how sensitive it was when it came time to pull off a fatality. It was then when I decided to go back to old school and use the D-pad and only the D-pad. Now MK is a cake-walk for me.

Me too. I love Starcraft and Warcraft, but I'm absolutely no good there. I'm bad in all RTS but the Blizzard ones take the cake. In fighting games I'm somewhat bad. I seem to have a talent, I usually reach an almost average skill level pretty fast. But at that point I just stop improving.

Resonance Of Fate not only haves an incredibly steep learning curve but it's also much much harder than your average RPG. I'm liking the game a lot but it's definetely complicated.

Pretty much any competitive game of any kind these days, but especially fighting games. They may as well all be in a different language, and for all intents and purposes, they are. So I only play offline with other laymen, since playing online with the SRK guys is sadomasochistic, and not terribly fun.

The Silent Hunter series. Plotting accurate torpedo attacks and attacking convoys is extremely difficult and time-consuming on realistic settings. And don't even get me started on plotting an attack solution while submerged using only sonar. Even watching YT videos I still was lost.

DCS Blackshark is another one that's so complex I can never see myself getting good at it. It's hard enough to start up the heli and get off the ground, much less go around blowing up targets.

Europa Universalis III. I bought Chronicles off Steam but can barely understand the manual nevermind the game itself. I am eager to get to grips with it though as it looks like a game to really lose many hours in.

This ^^ It looks interessting and I love that Switzerland is playable, but up to this point I just didn't have the time to invest to learn everything about it, it is extremly complex.

@Tc: I disagreee that any fighter is complex, all you need is practise to pull of the combos and well... remember the combos. IMO complex are games you have a lot to manage / a lot of different things to do like, well, Europa Universalis 3, Sword of the Satrs, Disgaea, stuff like that

Starcraft 2, I have the attention span of a teaspoon so there's no way in hell I'll master that. Also Blazblue: Continuum Shift, though that's mostly because I'm not familiar with the characters and all their abilities are pretty unique>,

I'm kinda excited for Dark Souls. After watching the videos and reading what other people have said on how that game will kick your ass. I think thats one game that despite it kicking your ass alot, will probably be rewarding in a way. Plus I love Dark Soul's Dark Fantasy setting/theme in it.

i can understand to that especially since wow demands perfection in every aspect but the game most definately isn't bad, you obviously havn't played it long enough to experience the fun parts, problem with wow is that it's more focused on endgame content.

People always talk about Demon Souls as the hardest RPG this gen, I would disagree and say Resonance of Fate is.

That game is actually FUN and i still cant beat it, the battle system is very unique and very difficult to master.

Well I disagree, all you need to do is make fast decissions and react fast. Not saying it's easy, but it's far from a complex system

It has a steep learning curve but it's far from being complex. First of all forget about grenades, just level them if you need the overall levels. In an actual fight just use 2 hero runs which cross the lines of the other characters and place them as far from each other as possible using MPs. Third use the attack for all three (forgot how it was called), change a lot of scratch to real damage with the third character and scratch the others even more. You can do that on literally every fight and plat the game that way

Probably Demon Soul's and MvC games.
