Is there any game where you can play the bad guy?

Just anything? And please don't mention any games where your character starts out thinking he's the good guy but turns out he's done something bad and regrets what he's done then makes up for it. And it has be in the main plot of the game that you are evil, for example in Fallout 3 as far as I can see you can't be the bad guy in the main story(please don't spoil it for me, I haven't finished it yet), what you can do is a few evil side quests and that just doesn't cut it. And the game should have no annoying fratboys, no cheesy love story, and the main character you play is as cynical and unprincipled as possible.

I am sure there is? Would you call games like GTA?

Why would you want the main story like that? Many times those type of stories are boring.

You can't be the bad guy in GTA, except for maybe in Vice City, but even there you're just killing other bad guys who are more evil than you. And as for "Why would you want the main story like that? Many times those type of stories are boring.", you got it backwards.

I can not think of a a good story where the main character is evil.

You can be the bad guy in Fallout 3. Also another game where you use a villian is Overlord and Overlord 2.

How about Kane and Lynch ? They are bad guys who are being forced to do bad things, they don't have a problem with it being bad, they just don't like being forced.

Payday: The Heist - professional robbery for your daily evil deeds. No story though, pure co-op multiplayer game. C&C: Red Alert 3 - 3 campaigns for 3 different nations. At least two of them have the ambition to subdue the rest of the world into slavery. For some older games: Destroy All Humans! - self-explanatory. Soul Nomad & The World Eaters - while the "I'll destroy this pathetic world!" path is only playable after you've played through the game as the good guy once, it is there.

Pretty much any game with a morality system gives you the option of being evil, or a total asshole at worst. Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Fable, Black and White, and so on. The stories in the GTA games normally paint you as the good guy among bad guys, but you can go on ridiculous murder sprees if you want.

Destroy All Humans? Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Edit: wait, it's not playable on PC.

Again, these all have the main quests where you ultimately are a good guy. And going on a ridiculous murder spree on NPC's that have no dialogue or character and who will respawn right after I kill them, doesn't really count as evil. Again, it has to be the main plot, or the main story, and the protagonist has to be inherently bad himself,i.e.: no missions about saving women, no saving his best friends, no killing of evil ugly crimelords, etc...

There's also Saint's Row 2, where your character is little more than a sadistic crime lord fighting his way back to the top of the chain. God of War 3 also starred a protagonist who really wasn't much better than the people he was waging war against.

Peter Molyneux had a game called Dungeon Keeper that let you attack adventurers who would invade your dungeon. I never played it but people liked it I recall. Maybe it's available on Good Old Games There was also Overlord, a game where you were like a demony thing that had evil minions. I think they made a sequel. Both games are comical, though.

Although the main character of Shadow of the Colossus unleashes a great evil for the sake of a girl, because he, The Wanderer as many call him, does so, some judge him to be a villain himself.

Rarely.

Even in games where you're given the choice, you still end up doing things that are either justified in some way or you're evil fighting a more intense evil. A few of the games listed so far feature ridiculously evil events but with morally grey outcomes.

There are others where the ending reveals that you're character isn't necessarily good
like Shadow of the Colussus or Braid
but you never feel evil in the context of the game. The end might shed new light onto prior events, but I think you're more looking for a title where you're evil, know you're evil, do evil things, and etc.

In that case, older, truly free RPGs rarely have the story to go along with it but you can be evil in a sense. In Morrowind, I did the main quest line, I did several of the guild lines, and then my character was bitten by a vampire and I spent the rest of the game going from town to town killing everyone until there was nothing left (I made my character into a hero to villain tragedy, it was great fun).

I remember a game called Dungeons and from what I heard you played a sort of dungeon master who's task was to eliminate the dungeon explore (AKA: Heroes) with all the tools in your arsenal. Elder Scrolls games you can just go rouge and kill "partially" everybody; also, I think you can be evil or at least have a bad reputation in the Mount and Blade series.

Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal Black and the Twisted Metal reboot was a scary SCARY individual.  Like he makes The Joker seem like a reasonable human being kind of scary.

The Twisted Metal games aren't super heavy on the narrative.  But he's about as evil as they come, with no redeeming qualities.  He's also one of the main characters in the story mode of the reboot.

Can we say that these "bad guys" are actually anti-heroes, because they have traits that are not attributed traditionally to heroes?

Yeah that's what I suspected, most of them sound like stories where the playable character himself is not inherently bad. And while Bethesda RPG's are excellent and allow you to be evil, being evil in these games is like being evil in GTA, the gameplay in Bethesda games is too free and open ended and choice oriented for there to be a solid well-written main story about you being evil.

You can play inFamous as either a good guy, a bad guy or somewhere in between. You can play the main character as cynical and unprincipled if you wish. If you make good Karma choices along the way you will gain a reputation as a hero and people will cheer you when you show up. If you make bad Karma choices along the way people will fear or revile you and either cower or hurl rocks at you when you show up. The authorities will trust you and seek your assistance if your Karma is good, or attack you on sight if your Karma is bad. No annoying frat boys or cheesy love stories here. You also have some degree of choice in how you play Niko Bellic in GTA IV, who is an anti-hero rather than a protagonist. Despite the fact that he is a gangster, some of the side missions and random encounters with people in need of help give you a choice of showing some compassion or of being totally ruthless. Niko Bellic can be completely cynical and unprincipled if that's the way you want to play him, or ruthless in business but more principled and compassionate in dealing with ordinary people. One annoying frat boy who you frequently ridicule and love interests that you pursue or ignore depending on your choice.

Potentially any RPG with a morality system. KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Mass Effect etc.

Overlord.

Spec Op the Line can have you do bad things.

Pac Man.

Any antagonist character arcade mode in fighting games.

Manhunt kind of.

Silent Hill 2?

X Men Legends 2 has you playing as a whole team of bad guys if you want.

Aliens vs Predator.

Technically a few of the MGS games depending how you view it.

If you wish to go really old school, Dungeon Keeper II sees you trying to destroy the good guys throughout the game.

Your best best is Overlord, and if you don't mind it, Fable: The Lost Chapters is also pretty satisfying when it comes to playing the evil path from the start, your character drastically changes depending on your alignment too (being good gives you this blue aura with white hair and a halo above your head, being evil on the other hand... I'll leave that out for curiosity's sake).

inFAMOUS is also totally worth it, its got a good story that works both ways (good and evil) and the second one especially has a satisfying evil path and evil ending..
