Is there anyone here that has NEVER touched or played an MMO RPG before?

Just wondering because it seems like these days you hear a lot of talk of "I leveled so and so to level 80 heheh got the best gear" and sometimes I wonder what in the HECK they are talking about. Then they mention games like WOW and what not. I've played a few MMO's and quite frankly they can never keep my attention. I prefer traditional RPG's myself. Is there anyone here that has NEVER played or CARE to play an MMO RPG?

Myself.
I've played a little bit of Star Wars Galaxies which I know isn't regarded as the best MMO and also some WoW. Neither held my attention and I felt confused as to why people get so addicted. Seemed all flash with no substance. Yes theres a tonne of spells and equipmentyou can use, but I failed to see any context which you would have to use them and find it remotely interesting.
The only MMO I'm remotely interested in is Star Trek Online which is currently still in development. Still I doubt I'll be tempted to pay the full monthly subscription cost.

I played a few MMORPGs (WoW and Runescape mainly) and I would say they were pretty addictive for the time I played. However, once they got boring and I quit playing them altogether, I realized that the gameplay in MMOs is very repetitive. It's mostly just grinding and questing to reach the highest level, at which point you just keep doing the same thing to get the best gear. In the end, you get nothing. It's not even fun, it just gives you a short burst of instant gratification every time you level up or find something rare/valuable. I'm probably never going to play an MMORPG again...

Never touched one, almost tried the WOW free trial just out of interest........ in the end I couldn't be bothered. I can't understand why, I'd probably enjoy an MMO if I got into one but I'm just not interested in taking that first step.

waste of time and money, when i played WOW it felt more like a Second Job, i mean I have to work so hard to grinding instances, setting up raids, grinding raids and wishing to get the gear thru DKP, spending hourrs upon hours leveling, grinding dailies every single day for gold, doing the same repetitive flying around mining.... ughhh in the end i wasted 14 months of my life and gained nothing but poor health, loss of social life, Im still recovering from it.

The cost puts me off trying them. I have a lot of fun playing single player RPGs, but the prospect of paying full price for a game, and then having to spend another 100+ pounds a year just to play it doesn't appeal to me

I have played WoW for a grand total of 20 minutes. Other than that I have never played any MMORPG. I'm not the sort of person to invest that much time in a single game so MMORPG's really don't appeal to me. I have enough trouble remaining focused on my studies without such expansive games to which I would no doubt become addicted.

I've never touched one, ever. In fact, I don't even have the slightest clue as to how they work, something I'm not the least bit ashamed of.

I do enjoy RPGs, mostly of the 'J'-variety, but when I do its either something like the Persona series, which, while incredibly time-consuming, at least rewards you with compelling story, art-design and characters and also has time limits to keep you from grinding indefinitely, or the old-school Shining Force games, where every last battle is event-based, thus eliminating grinding altogether.

Thanks for the input. I haven't really played them much either because like a lot of people here, it's just too time consuming and it seems they become more like a chore than a job later in as you play them. I prefer the story telling and an end that comes with single player traditional RPGs.

I've tried a couple but the prospect of paying every month tend to make me drop them. Hell only game I have where a character is max level is Guild Wars.

No, but I honestly wish I never had. To me, they just don't compare to regular games. I don't want to play with dozens of other players. I'd rather have a more significant SP experience any day.

I'm almost always in a constant state of playing an MMO, which I mean at almost any point in time I'll have a subscription to an MMO. Just something to do when your bored of all your other games, it's relaxing too for some reason, toss on some good tunes and start leveling.

I've never played an MMO mostly due to them not appealing much to me and the subscriptions which halted me to at least check them out. However, there is one upcoming MMO I'm very interested in - The Secret World. It's unique in every way imagineable and breaks many of the genre's conventions - it has a contemporary setting, it will focus on storytelling, skills and adventure elements and it will feature no leveling whatsoever.

I hear that Dungeons & Dragons Online is going free soon so I might check that out. Anyone here play it?

I have never played an MMO. As a software engineer, I'm surrounded by what most people would call geeks every day (yes, I'm a geek too). I would say that 90% of my coworkers from the division director on down to the rank-and-file have played WOW extensively. They treat me like an outcast because I have no clue what "DPS" means...

*raises hand* The reason I don't play MMO's is because I've seen the damage they can do firsthand. My second college roommate was addicted to WoW, and he would drop half his cIasses and stay up all night playing that game. He ended up quitting college after his first semester, which is a real shame, because he was a good guy. I'm afraid this will happen to me if I get hooked because I'm hooked enough on single-player games as it is.

I have never touched or played one. Had they come out before I got married, I am sure I would have gotten hooked on WOW or D&D online, but after getting married, I barely had enough time for single player games, I couldn't justify the investment of time/money for mmo.

The only online fun I have ever truly had was playing Counter Strike. I prefer single-player campaigns, which seem to be going out the window these days. I'd rather play music with my friends than play WoW with my "friends."

I've never played one. The free ones always seem like an RPG that's nothing but grinding (fail imo) and even when I hear awesome stuff about paid ones it's like, "yeah, once you've been playing (and paying) for months the game starts getting great." If I could just jump straight to a great level where the game gets good and the story is interesting, i'd do that. But i've got little interest in paying like $15 a month and playing something that sucks on the hopes that eventually it'll become good... just 50 more levels to go. The Old Republic interests me though. I hear that you can play it just like a single player RPG. Single player Bio-Ware RPGs are some of my favorite games of all time, so that grabs my interest... but I really don't want to pay a monthly fee, I feel the game should be on consoles since console Bio-Ware games outsell the PC versions (so why abandon the people who actually buy and like your games for people that don't) and for my laptop to run this game at a solid framerate, i'll probably have to drop the graphics down to the quality of a PS2 launch title, if not worse.

I played WoW for two years, I must say the game was a lot of fun, as long as I had a friend with me. I can say I was never addicted, restricted my self to 2-3 hours a day. I pulled straight A's in school, and I usually found time to hang out with my friends. The cost was a bit much, I'll admit, but I usually made the money pretty easily.

If you're worried about addiction problems, set the parental controls to a few hours, and put in a random password you'll never remember.

Actually, in my opinion the way up is the best part. I hate the sort of end-game WoW popularized and is now part of every MMO.
