I realize threads like this come up all the time and there are probably a ton of un announced games coming up this year. Saying that though are the consoles starting to really slow down and coming to the end of their life cycles. The Wii I feel has pulled out all of it's big guns, (Mario, DK, Metroid, Zelda) and there is a new Zelda coming out. The titles the 360 has upcoming (that aren't kinect based) are the forza 4, mass effect 3 (may or may not be on ps3 also), eldar scrolls and gears 3. The PS3 has twisted metal, LBP2, KZ2 and uncharted 3 (not including move titles).

I realize that theres loads of multiplats i haven't mentioned and feel free to mention games I missed because I'm saying this off the top of my head. But overall do you think this gen of consoles is starting to die down (with the motion controls on 360 and ps3 just being filler till next gen)?

Based on prior console cycles, we should be seeing a new "Wii" very soon at least. Don't know about PS3 and 360, I kind of don't want to buy new systems already. It seems like they are still getting more and more out of the hardware.

I think they are on their way out, but Sony and Microsoft are definatly trying to squeeze some more years out of their consoles..

No. Maybe the Wii but that's about it. The PS3 is barely reaching it's prime. The 360 is getting more support with the Kinect.

The WII is the only one that seems close to its end. Sony and MS just pumped a crap load of money into Move and Kinect, both systems have at least 3 years left, otherwise there is no profit in sinking so much money into those products for this gen, when they could've have made them standard with the next gen. It's basically just common sense. There are still a bunch of great games coming, and plenty that haven't been officially announced, the PS3 and 360 arent going anywhere anytime soon

This generation has been pathetic.

I was looking back through my old EGMs and GIs - - during the PS2/XBOX/GC years, there were 4 or 5 really good games . . . . every month.

Look at the current generation,. We're lucky to get 4 good games a year.

I feel Microsoft and PS3 are not going to be releasing a new console anytime soon; I think Move and Kinect were in replace of a new console. Now Sony has to push the Move and also 3D and Microsoft has to push the kinect. Nintendo might release something new in the next year or so (2012/2013)

There weren't that many great games per year during the ps2/xbox/gc years either. The biggest difference is the ammount of hype games are getting, I was almost never really hyped up for a game during that gen, so there were not really that many moments where a game truly disappointed me. Now games are getting hyped up 1-3 years ahead of when they're coming out, and they're hyped up so much that I'm usually disappointed when I finally get the game (MoH, FFXIII, FNV, AC1, SWTFU2). It's not that games are getting worse, it's that bad games are getting hyped

Yeah - there were. Especially for the PS2. I just read through some of those mags last week, from 2002 to 2007 - there's no comparison.

just because console sales are slow doesnt mean the gen is dying. It just means that there's now a good install base on all three systems and game developlers can be assured decent revenues for their creations. The only thing the next gen will add wold be slightly better graphics, which means more time in developing games, etc. I'm happy where we are right now.

No, it isn't. I'd give it another 2 or 3 years, at least.

nah, I'd give it another 2 or 3 years before we get anything new.

Which is terrific.
