I have the opportunity to buy twin snakes for gamecube for 30 dollars.

I love MGS series (havent played 4, just 1, 2 and 3)...but I havent played the first one since i was like 12...but i remember it being incredible.

will twin snakes ruin the magic for me?....i heard that took a lot of the "kojima" out of it

I think it's worth it, I say go for it. I dunno about prices though, so I dunno if most would be willing to play 30 dollars or less, or more.

Heck yeah it is! LOL! If you are into remakes then I realy recommend it. It is Metal Gear Solid using the engine of Sons of Liberty. The only I disliked is that every cutscene pretty much uses bullet time. I forgot I was playing MGS and thought I was watching the Matrix at times.

It's way better then replaying the original to me. The original MGS just looks so awful that it's kind of hard to get into for me.

well the good is that the graphics are much better, that is undeniable, its also smoother from a frame rate perspective (the original did stutter a bit at times) as well as having some of the gameplay mechanics from MGS2

however it has several issues.

. worse voice acting, the voice acting was redone, not for the better.

. it has stupid matrix-like effects which really don't fit into the game

. the first person shooting that was added sometimes makes the game easier, since the enviroments and boss fights werent designed for them

Really? I thought the voice acting was ok and Mei Ling's voice was actually somewhat pleasant to hear in Twin Snakes then in the original.

. it has stupid matrix-like effects which really don't fit into the game. Yeah I agree.

Agreed. This is my second biggest problem about the game. The bosses weren't designed for a first person view and it made the game way too easy, but there are harder modes so it kinda makes up for it.

I bolded my responses above.^^^^^

My biggest complaint is that they changed the Encounter theme (the theme that plays when you get discovered) to a theme that sounds like the main theme for Metal Gear Solid 2 (I think its two).

It much easier to get into because of the enhanced look of the game. I say go for it.

I liked the game, but I never played the original so what do I know? I really liked the bonus items you could get after beating the game it allowed for alot of freedom and ways to mess around. I also liked alot of the action cutscenes, it was like watching an insane, awesomley over the top action movie. I would say go for it.

I hated it.

Graphics

I don't like the graphics. It looks very generic and bland, like your typical remake of an RPG on the DS/PSP, where it's done on a very tight budget or something. I greatly prefer the gritty look of the original.

Voice Acting

The voice acting took a big dive in terms of quality. It's fine for the most part, but you can easily observe the fact that they didn't want to do it (they were eventually persuaded by David Hayter's pay cheque). They just sound very unconcered about it all, if you get me. A good example is towards the end of the game, where you find out that you're in an elevator with a bunch of people using stealth suits. In the original, Otacon is like: "HOLY **** WTF! LOOK OUT SNAKE! THERE'S GUYS IN THERE WITH YOU"; in TTS, it's like: "Oh yeah, there's some guys in there with you. Look out, Snake". Just watch it on Youtube and you'll see how laughably bad the scene is.

First Person View

The game wasn't designed around it's inclusion, and as a consequence, it breaks the game. Even on the hardest difficulty it's basically impossible to die so long you take advantage of it. Many of the bosses are ruined due to it, too, most notably Revolver Ocelot, where he'll be down within seconds.

Techno Music

I really hate the techo soundtrack. That's all.

Cutscene Effects

I hate the effects incorporated into the cutscenes. The Matrix was popular upon the game's release, so you'll see a lot of matrix-like effects in the game. The cutscenes in the original provide a great sense of immersion to the game, but when you see Snake jumping on missiles and doing flips all of the time like some Japanese anime in TTS, any sense of realism is gone.

I could go on, but these are my main problems with the game. I'm also not a fan of the Gamecube's triggers, so having to use them repeatedly in order to access my items was annoying. What did they improve, you ask? There's never any slowdown with the frame-rate...You don't need to do the running around with the key cards at the end...They're honestly the only improvements that I can think of.

you might want to check out the PC version , its a bit of a pain to set up , but it has a hardware mode you can use to run the game in high res without warping , seaming and all the other stuff that tends to happen on the PS1.

whats more its the integral version, so you get the VR missions with it.

the only weird thing is the frame rate during some cutscenes where you see stealth gear , whenever you do , the frame rate goes down from 30 (higher than the original) to about 12, only to speed up back to 30 once the stealth of off the screen.

If you've played the original to death and know it by heart then just borrow it from someone you know. That's what I did. Unless you'd wanna have it in your collection.

@Darkman

I played the PC version back in the day, but yeah I'll definitely check it out again seeing as it'll run fine in hardware mode. Just two questions:

1) I'm assuming it has the first person mode? I have it on PS1, and there's quite a bit of slowdown--maybe it runs at a slower frame-rate too--when playing in the first person mode.

2) I'm also assuming that it's the English voice acting with Japanese subtitles?

1) I actually couldn't find it, Ive read reviews stating its there, but I can't find it there (maybe I didn't unlock it) 2) no , both the voice acting and subs are in English , same the PS1 version of Integral. the only issue with it , is that its a bit of a pain to set up, there is a certain patch you can find relatively easily online that willl let the game recognise a modern GPU and allow it to run on a newer Windows. as for controls, it does support gamepads but initially it didn't work with my PS2 controller (via an adapter) , so I used a program that maps keyboard controls to the controller. result, PS controls and PC visuals.

1) I can't remember how you unlock the first person view mode. I think you've just gotta beat the game? But maybe it differs on what ending you get? Who knows.

2) Oh right. I could've sworn Integral had English VA with Japanese subs. I guess that shows how long ago it was since I last played it.

Thanks for the info, man. I'm definitely gonna check it out.

Yes the ps1 version does not stand the test of time very well. It looks amazing with GC graphics. Very great game... If you want it cheap and can not afford the best version playing it on the Psp screen with ps1 graphics makes it more bearable.

It is defiantly worth buying. Graphics are amazing and it is the second best of the series for me( Snake Eater is first). I never understand why people complain so much about matrix Snake. When are the Metal Gear games believable? Psycho Mantis, ghosts, many of the bosses, the games break the fourth wall, the list goes on.

Twin Snakes simply raped the Kojima style from the game. There is something very characteristic of metal gear--TS lacks this.

Ps1 hardware was not capable of what Twinsnakes did.

Play 3 and 2 and you will see over the top moments.

Presented in a different manner, and in context. TS plays out like a fanboy made remake, with no understanding of the film medium.

You should definetely get it, I personally liked it more than the original MGS.
