When i was a kid,i used to rent it all the time and play with my friend.

Untill a family friend bought it for me.

Everything was so perfect - gameplay, graphics, music.

One of Koji Kondo's best ever works.

Honestly I think I am the only person who truly didnt like the game... and I still dont. I know a lot of people love it, but I think it is WAY over rated in a lot of aspects. Maybe it is just the disapointment I faced when I heard the was a Super Mario World 2 was c oming soon. Man I was pumped... and then they dropped the sack of crap and it sunk to the bottom of the bowl... lol That's just for me though. Nostalgia rarely plays a role with me, but I think this is an example of ANTI NOSTALGIA... :P

Truthfully though I have played the game within recent years and it isnt horrible, it just is not a Super Mario World game in my opinion. If they would have named it Yoshi's Island: ANYTHING BUT Super Mario Brothers, Land, or World, I would not have expected so much from it.

Although baby Mario is one annoying little crying sob... lol

lmao... I know, and I hear what you are saying.

However, Super Mario World was brilliant to me. I was expecting more of the same, and instead we got a whiny, crying, little baby that couldn't shoot fire or fly....

Like I said before, it is one of, if not the only game I have Anti nostalgia for. However, that does not make it a bad game. It just means it isnt what I hoped it would be. Same thing happened with Breath of Fire 4. It isnt a bad game, but it is crap to me because it ruined my favorite RPG series.

*edit** However, the reason they added that name was to increase sales. They knew people would buy it for the name alone. If some people knew it was such a departure from the series less copies would have sold. Then again correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think it sold that well anyways.

Well, yeah... I guess you could say that. I only soeak for myself though.

However, further games in the Mario Brothers archive made up for it. However, it took a LONG time. Since SMW the only great Mario game I have played is Super Mario Brothers Wii, but the one on Wii U looks like it is going to rock as well. (there were other good entries, but mostly sub genres like SMRPG, and the Paper Mario series.)

Also, just because it ruined the series for me doesnt mean it was a horrible game. It just didnt live up to the high standards that I or so many others expected.

I mean it ruined my expectations of the series, not that it ruined the series all around...

I really like SMB, SMB3, SMW, and New Super Mario Brothers Wii. The Mario Galaxy games are quite outstanding as well though. Yoshis Island and Mario 64 just didnt do it for me though.

After the last several releases (the one on the 3ds looks good as well, but I havnt played it yet) my confidence has grown substantially.

SMB2 and Yoshi's Island are major departures that hurt the series for me, but funny enough they are both solid games at t he core regardless of how far they strayed from the formula.

The shading is so unique- almost appearing hand colored. Although the gameplay and dynamics were pure Super Mario goodness. Interesting that Nintendo decided to move away from the game's unique visual style for the sequel, Nintendo 64's Yoshi's Story in favor of textures that resemble fabric.

I can't believe you,man.

How can you be one of those "if they change it,it's not the same series anymore"?

You sound like those RE fans who only like the old games...

That's just....close-minded,at best.....

SMG + SMG2 were amazing.

Games have evolved,you know.

They shouldn't be in 2D just because they once were.

:/

I'm not a "if they change it it's not the same series anymore" kind of person to the core.

I am certainly not close minded. I agree SMG and SMG2 are great games, but once again they are NOT called Super Mario Brothers, Land, or World.

They are a different sub genre broken off of the Mario games, and they are fantastic.

I also never said that I believe games should remain in 2D. I however do feel as though Mario games being identified as Brothers, Land, or World, are at their best as side scrolling adventure platformers.

Notice how ALL the Super Mario Brother games are part of the same side scrolling theme. SMB, SMB2 (doki doki panic), SMB3, NSMBW, NSMBWU. 5 for 5 that keep the same formula. Now Super Mario Galaxy= 3D around the globe awesomeness= 2 for 2 gameplay like that.

By your logic, you are saying you would not mind if Super Mario galaxy 3 completely changed its formula but STILL kept the Galaxy tag. Now, if you heard Super Mario Galazy 3 was coming soon, and you absolutely LOVED the first 2, would you not be a little upset or hold a personal grudge against the game if it was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like the first 2?

Dont you realize that is often why SMB2 and Yoshis Island arent even really considered part of the core series?

No, I agree in a lot of ways. It's still a good game though. It was a case similar to Super Mario Sunshine, where I essentially wanted 64-2, but in hindsight sunshine is actually a phenomenal game.

That camera was beyond horrible, and considering everyone else s worked, they had to be on drugs or sniffing markers. Also, it took me forever to figure out that field while riding that floating thing. Waste of time.

Graphics and sound didn't really impress me all that much (I was more impressed by the DKC games) but the gameplay was pure platforming perfection, imo.

I have played only the GBA version. It really shows how designers can use art style to overcome graphical limiations of a system. The graphics look better than most DS games. The gameplay is great too. It doesn't feel like a Mario game at all to me because of the egg-throwing dynamic and because Yoshi can float at the end of his jumps which makes the platforming a bit easier. It is its own unique game and, in my opinion, it is one of the best platformers ever made.

It is a well designed game, and it does have a unique look to it. But I wouldn't label it as "one of the most beautiful."

It certainly did have a unique art style that stood out. While not one of my favorite games, it did have merit.
