It appears Duke Nukem Forever really will take forever to be released.

I just want to get this straight. The team that has been working on the game for 12 years is not finishing it? This is the greatest embarrassment in the game industry I have ever seen.

This is pretty harsh news. :( Hopefully it won't go into the cancelled abyss again.

Yeah it sure is pretty sad news. I was really hoping these guys would be able to finish it. I really enjoy the Duke and was looking forward to the game.

I say its about freaking time! I mean how many more years did they want to produce a single game? That was a sequel no less.

Yeah, I don't see why people are calling the publisher's decision 'sad' and 'harsh'. If a team is so hideously incompetent that they can't finish a game in twelve years contining to fund them would be an act of insanity (the N64's classic Goldeneye was released in 1997). The publishers ought to be nominated for sainthood for tolerating the idiocy and sloth of the development team as long as they did.

Make a list of your favorite/the best games ever and you will have a list of games that were finished in a fraction of the time that 3D Realm's spent working on DNF.

I'm surprised they were able to keep it open this long. What other games were they working on besides DNF?

Thats sad. I really enjoyed Duke Nukem. I really wanted to see a new and updated version of the saga. Maybe someone will pick up the pieces and release a new game or try to release Forever again. Farewell Duke. May your bedroom be full of hookers and booze.

The rumors will stay alive just as they always have been. The game itself will always be a myth though.

The really sad part is that all joking about the time spent in development aside, DNF had significantly more promise than most other FPS being crapped out by the industry on a regular basis, and it seems that the cancellation didn't even come down until the game was just months away from a possible release. I got off of the whole FPS thing rather early on, but back when I was putting the most time into them (particularly during the local fighting community crash in the 90s), it was always Duke and Quake, Duke and Quake, Duke and Quake whenever my friends and I were playing. I can see it Take-Two's way, as well. After all, these guys have been gulping down paychecks for 12 years to work on this game, and though I'm not sure just how much of that has been on Take-Two's dime, eventually you just have to say "Guys, it's time for you all to show us the results we've been paying you for all along, or you need to leave."

There seems to be quite of bit of misinformation going on regarding this closure. Take-Two is not responsible for this. They had a publishing agreement with 3D Realms that did NOT include development funding, that's basically why 3D Realms had the freedom to do what it did with Duke Nukem Forever. No publisher would fund a game for 12 years. Also, while Take-Two still holds the publishing rights, 3D Realms still fully owns the IP.

Anyway, 3D Realms haven't released a game since forever, I never could figure out how in the hell did they manage to stay in business for so long. It's always a shame to see a studio shut its doors--especially such an iconic indie developer that was around for a full 22 years--but I personally have no emotional attachment to 3D Realms or Duke Nukem.

I actually would have liked to see the game released but really had no expectations of it ever coming out. Too bad, I liked Duke back in the day and this game may have revitalized that but looks like all those hopes are gone.

So when and where did you see a release date? I don't know where you got that info, but it wasn't a few months away............. Most people would agree that they actually didn't have much made for the game other than the Teaser that was shown a long time ago.
