I'm playing other games on PC right now, so Gamecube and PS2 are my only options. Which of these are best for a guy who's never played a RPG?

Gamecube:

Harvest Moon

(don't know if these are RPGs)

LoZ: Wind Waker

LoZ: Collector's Edition (has LoZ, The adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask)

PS2:

Kingdom Hearts

Dragonquest VIII- Journey to the Cursed King

Final Fantasy XII- Collector's Edition

Thanks for the help!

I would probably suggest Paper MArio: Thousand Year Door. Or any turn based RPG.

LoZ games aren't really that much RPG but I would play them. Kingdom Hearts is a light action rpg so it's not that hard. But you can't really go wrong with Final Fantasy so I would say play Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII (FFVII is PS1 but it is probably one of the best but it's hard to find.)

Yeah, the Zelda games are more action/adventure games, but Ocarina of Time is amazing. Play that.

On Gamecube, I recommend Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It was my first RPG game barring the Pokemon series, and I loved it. It's simple enough for newcomers to grasp, but still offers unique ideas. Plus, it's one of the funniest games I played last generation.

Zelda games aren't really RPGs, but play them anyway. :) For the Gamecube, you could try Tales of Symphonia. There's also Skies of Arcadia Legends if you can find it. Paper Mario is another must-play game. For the PS2, Dragon Quest VIII is a good start, since the combat is easy to get into. The game is fairly challenging, though.

I know you didn't list it, but Final Fantasy X would be a great place to start for PS2. I liked it a lot more than FFXII.

That's a tricky question. For any RPG recommendation, I automatically, go to Morrowind. Even for someone who never played one before. I don't know if I had played a serious RPG before Morrowind. Personally, I would get Morrowind, make a character, mess around for a while, and then read up on how to play better online. This is definitely a game that you need to read the directions in order to get the most out of it. But, there is so much to do and so much control you have over the environment of the game.

For the Gamecube you should check out Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door and Tales of Symphonia. If you are into stretegy RPGs you should check out Fire Emblem: Path of radiance.

For the PS2, you should check out Final Fantasy X and Tales of Legendia and Tales of the Abyss.

I'd recommend Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door for gamecube even though its not on your list. I just think that game is easy to get into and not too complicated for a newbie. I wouldn't start withFF XII because IMO was a bit much. By that I mean I felt the game was too combat heavy for my taste.
