I've been the hype about Persona 3 for a couple years now and finally bought in and got Persona 3 FES today. What are everyone's thoughts on this game? Also, is the rest of the persona series worth playing? It looks like Persona 1 and one part of Persona 2 are on the PSX and Persona 4 is on the PS2. If the PSX games aren't hard to find and the series is worth it i might get the rest of the series.

Brilliant game. Starts off strong, drags a bit during some parts in the middle section, but ends with a bang. If you can make through the few dull sections with little plot progression you're in for one hell of an RPG ride. Persona 4 is more of the same as Persona 3, but with some gameplay changes and better pacing as far as the story. From what I've heard Persona 1 and 2 play alot differently, but I haven't played them myself so I can't really comment on those. Enjoy Persona 3! :D

Never played any of the Persona games, but they look good. I really would like Persona 4 since I've heard nothing but amazing things about it -- not so sure about Persona 3, but well I'd be suprised if it wasn't just as good (from what I've looked up about it).

I've only played Persona 3 FES and 4 but both are awesome games and are some of the best rpg's I've played. I put in 80+ hours on both games.

Persona 3 is my favorite game of last generation, and Persona 4 makes the gameplay better but the story isn't quite as good. Persona 1 is pretty bad so I wouldn't recommend it, but I hear Persona 2 is pretty good.

I found Persona 3 to be the best RPG for the PS2 among those that I've played. The story was among the best from the RPGs that I've played, and the characters rate among the best as well. It has a dark mood, which I found to be a good change of pace from other JRPGs. The gameplay was solid and fairly challenging, and the game as a whole was quite long.

Persona 4 on the other hand I wasn't as much of a fan of. The story and characters didn't hold as much of my interest, and most of the gameplay improvements over P3 were concerning things that I didn't really have any issue with to start with. Still a good game though.

Haven't played Persona 1 or 2.

both P3/P4 are excellent, excellent rpg's, P4 being my personal favorite of the 2 ya the story is probably a bit better in P3 and will leave you awkwardly pleased in the end, but the pacing of the story isnt as good as P4, as certain points of p3 just seems to drag on until you reach some of the sudden omg wtf just happend moments, then things really pick up But the story in P4 was still terrific, with excellent pacing especially due to variety of dungeons and backstories, although may become quite predictable at parts towards the end, but still goes out with a big bang, though maybe not quite as big as p3's ;) i personally much preferred the main cast of characters in p4 rather than p3, but at the same time i think p3 has the egde with the cast of social link NPC's, especially the girls(chihiro, yuko, etc)but then again p4 has rise, and rise is the ultimate waifu :P as far as gameplay goes, the major change, being able to have full control of your party in battle in p4 really made me enjoy it a lot more since p3 definitely had a few frustrating moments with the improper healing techniques of a certain party member, p4 aslo has a bit more refined persona fusing system as i mentioned above, p4 involves a handful of different themed dungeons, rather than a 1 giant sized dungeon that takes place through the whole game with a bunch of mini quest/dungeons on each full moon, of which i preferred how it was done in p4 most of the other gameplay changes are give or take whether you like them such as...in p4 you collect material dropped from enemies every battle to bring the main shopkeeper to create sets of weapons/armor/acc, which i personally preferred rather than having a new stock of stuff randomly on a particular days, they also took out the mood system(tired, moderate, happy, etc) for p4 as i didnt really care for, and actually got a bit annoying sometimes when i wasnt done grinding out some floors in tartarus in p3 when my party was already getting tired and plenty of other small changes, tweaks, additions/subtractions that you'll notice throughout the playthroughs of the 2 games, most of them generally benefiting the overall gameplay overall these really are some of the greatest rpgs out and easily the greatest of this generation when put up against all rpgs on pc/360/ps3, imo of course ...excellent stories, tons of likable characters, solid rpg gameplay with an awesome fusing system, with the perfect mesh of social/relationship developing aspects to make 2 ultimate rpg packages

You will get pulled into the world of Persona 3. It's one of the games in 100+ hrs club. Take your time with it, enjoy building on the (ingame) social aspects and level to beat hell. As for the original Persona, I enjoy the setting and the ability to converse with the enemy, but it became stale and boring to me and I never completed it. If you get into the current itteration of Persona I don't recommend backtracking to the PS1 games, particularly considering the price of admission.

This. Also in the same "universe" is Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 which are all excellent.
