All should be affordable buys. Although I'm not sure about the US SEGA-CD stuff, since it seems to be more expensive than in other regions.

MEGA-CD :

  • Dark Wizard
  • Heavenly Symphony
  • Bari-Arm
  • DENNIN ALESTE : Nobunaga and his Ninja Force
  • Dungeon Explorer
  • The Space Adventure Cobra
  • Lords of Thunder
  • Sonic CD
  • Final Fight CD
  • Sol-Feace
  • Road Blaster FX
  • Switch

Saturn :

  • Daytona USA
  • SEGA Rally
  • Cockwork Knight
  • Clockwork Knight II
  • Panzer Dragoon
  • Panzer Dragoon II : Zwei
  • Shin Shinobi Den
  • Decathlete
  • Dynamite Deka
  • Astal
  • Shining The Holy Ark
  • Gun Griffon : The Eurasian Conflict
  • Enemy Zero
  • D no Shokutaku
  • Manx TT Super Bike
  • NiGHTS : Into Dreams...
  • Darius Gaiden
  • Last Bronx
  • Fighters Megamix
  • Layer Section
  • Rockman 8
  • Rockman X4

My picks: Sega CD: -Android Assault -Lords of Thunder -Robo-Aleste -Sonic CD Earthworm Jim: Special Edition, Final Fight CD, Mortal Kombat, and Space Harrier are all great games that are available on Sega CD; but you can also get versions them on Genesis and SNES and without the long load times. Saturn: -Clockwork Knight 1 & 2 -Darius Gaiden -Gex -Guardian Heroes -House of the Dead (Light Gun) -Marvel Super-Heroes -Mega Man 8 -Panzer Dragoon -Panzer Dragoon: Zwei -Resident Evil -Shinobi Legions -Sonic 3D Blast -Virtua Cop 1 & 2 (Light Gun) -X-Men: Children of the Atom

Yeah, you can get Final Fight on the SNES. Without 2 player mode, without Guy, without all the original levels. Great alternative.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but... I agree that Final Fight for the SNES is mediocre - and FF2 isn't much better. They both suffer from the pick up and throw the enemy outside the screen and wait til he gets back up and repeat, or jump-kick the enemy out of the screen, wait til he gets up again, etc.-syndrome.

They fixed all this for the SNES exclusive Final Fight 3, partly by speeding up the gameplay - unfortunately they managed to somehow make the controls a bit less stellar in the process though, at least they feel a bit awkward to me in comparison. But It's also way less repetitive, has multiple paths, 4 selectable characters and even the option to have a computer AI play the second player - far from a great AI, but usable. The enemies are more interesting and flexible in the ways that they attack and there are many more moves to play around with.

I can't see a reason why anyone would want to play the original Final Fight when there's Final Fight 3. But then again this isn't a thread about the SNES, so I'll give it a rest.

Everyone here already mentioned most of the best games on these consoles. If you like Zelda-like games, however, I would strongly suggest you invest in Legend of Oasis for the Sega Saturn, I had a blast with it.

Sorry to be so narrow-minded in terms of genre, but 90% of what I play are RPGs and SHMUPS....

My favorite SATURN games:

  • Albert Odyssey
  • Magic Knight RayEarth
  • Guardian Heroes
  • Dragon Force
  • Shining Wisdom
  • Shining Force III
  • Shining The Holy Ark
  • Panzer Dragoon Saga
  • Panzer Dragoon Zwei II
  • Panzer Dragoon
  • Galactic Attack
  • Darius Gaiden
  • Nights into Dreams
  • Astal
  • Shinobi Legions
