Hey GS I was wondering if you guys could recommend some lengthy GB/GBC games to me. I'm trying to pass time until the big releases come about and hell I love the GB/GBC. I just plowed through Indigo in Blue version with my army of 99's and it took me a good 60 hours. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Well...Pokemon...I suppose but you already knew that.

Tetris is surprisingling addicting and I usually end up wasting an hour if I start if not more.

There are some Dragon Warrior games and Harvest Moon also.

The warioland games are really fun, as is super mario land 2. 100% completion takes a good long while on both those games. Lots of secrets to find.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. Both are lengthy adventures and to get the full experience (and true ending) you need to swap passwords between them. Seasons is more action heavy and focuses more on combat while Ages is more about solving puzzles.

Got OoA here I might go ahead and try to finish it. "Beat" SML2 a couple months ago but thanks Hobo. I beat DW I - III as well just before I started SML2 I might try to finish DWM2 though. Thanks for the suggestions I'm open to more should you have any.

Cheers.

All of the following games are pretty lengthy as far as Gameboy games go, and great games:

  • Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
  • Final Fantasy Adventure
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (original or DX edition, only difference is that DX is in color)
  • The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons & Oracle of Ages (should be played back-to-back as they are directly linked, which means you'll be playing a while)
  • Metroid II: The Return of Samus
  • Super Mario Land II: The Six Golden Coins (Okay, not RPG long, but quite a bit longer than the original Super Mario Land)

People have been suggesting Super Mario Land 2, and it's a great game, but it only took me a few days to beat, including all secret levels. It's really easy, even if you suck at platformers.

I can definitely recommend Super Mario Bros. Deluxe on the GBC, as it includes the original Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels, which you have to unlock by beating SMB without saving or using continues. That'll probably keep you busy for a while, not to mention trying to beat Lost Levels!

If you like RPGs, Dragon Warrior I&II is also a great choice (includes the 2 first Dragon Warrior games). DW1 is really short, but DW2 is long and easy to get lost in. I've also heard good things about Dragon Warrior III, but I haven't played it yet.

Dragon Warrior Monsters is a nice lengthy game, especially if you get into the whole breeding deal.

Back in the day, there was no saving on SMB. You had to beat it in one sitting, or you didn't beat it. I could beat it. I don't see how it's longer than Super Mario Land 2.

I know, you can get through it rather quickly if you use warp zones, but you also can't use any continues to unlock Lost Levels in SMB Deluxe. The NES version already had continues.

I'd also imagine it'd take some practice to beat Lost Levels. I haven't done that yet.:P

Final Fantasy Legends sounds good. Does it have as good a story as FF's usually have?

I have this game but the battery died a week or 2 after I got it. :( I was really enjoying it too... I'm gonna get that replaced soon.

I don't know about both in one sitting, I've never done that. But I can beat SMB 1, without warping, in under 2 hours no problem. I've also beaten Lost Levels without warping, but that took quite a bit of trial and error and took a bit longer. I still did it within the same day, though. I don't think you could beat Super Mario Land 2 in one day. It might be possible if you played from waking moment to just before bed, but who would do that?

You sure about that? Super Mario Land 2 is really easy... Then again, I haven't tried to beat it in one sitting.

At any rate, both Super Mario Land 2 and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe are great games to have on the GB/GBC!

yup, the Harry Potter series offers some neat little RPG's, they just suck at some grinding parts.
