It's called "Another World." It's for the DS and Level - 5 is making it. Also, all the animation and concept art will be handled by Studio Ghibli, the Japanese animation powerhouse known as the Japanese Disney whose animated features by the renowned Hayao Miyazaki on films such as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Grave of the Fireflies.

http://kotaku.com/5053991/studio-ghibli-making-game-with-level-5

Japanese game developer Level 5 (Professor Layton, White Knight Chronicles) has teamed up with venerated animation house Studio Ghibli (My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service) to make DS title Ninokuni: THE ANOTHER WORLD, the developer's first "10th Anniversary" product. Ghibli is handling the animation for the game, which will be bundled with a "Magic Master" book which is akin to the book carried by the game's protagonist. The book has a crest to ward off evil spirits and contains secret elixir recipes and spells. Players even use information in the book in-game, apparently. Level 5, you had us at animation by Studio Ghibli.

I don't know what I'm more excited about the fact that Level - 5 is making the game or that Miyazaki's studio is collaborating.Looks like it will be a great game. I guess Professor Layton really impressed Studio Ghibli.

Some screens. AWESOME!!!

http://www.gamekyo.com/newsfr29074_level-5-s-associe-avec-studio-ghibli-sur-nintendo-ds.html

Also Joe Hisaishi will be doing the music. He does ALL the Miyazaki films from Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. I love his music.

AMAZING!!! This game keeps getting better and better!!!

I'll see how White Knight turns out first. I'm of the opinion that Level 5 has become the biggest ball o hype in the last ten years. Oh yeah, and Rogue Galaxy was pretty lame -- that didn't help any.

It should be interesting. I'm positive it will sell really well in Japan. Over here in the states on the other hand....

Awesome, awesome news. The book concept sounds interesting, the collaboration with Studio Ghibli should yield great results (I love the art in that bottom pic), and Level 5 has been on a role ever since Dark Cloud 2. Professor Layton really carved out it's own niche in the DS library and I expect this game will do the same. Level 5 seems to have taken a great approach to development on the DS, mixing unique gameplay design with some impressive visual achievements.

Okay, so I'm interested in this mainly for Ghibli's involvement, but Level 5 isn't the kind of studio that screws up games badly (at least, from the ones I've played), so I'm definitely in.

Which are awesome, thanks. I'm not a Ghibli junkie like many of you, but I recognize quality when I see it.

I truly recommend checking out some Ghibli movies. Just avoid Grave of the Fireflies if you are not into depressing movies. It's so far the most depressing movie I've ever seen.

Depressing, but it's a excellent war film for animated feature.

Roger Ebert ranks it as one of the best war films ever made along with Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Patton, and the other clas-sics.

Hopefully it comes to the states. But seeing how Professor Layton and Lost Magic did, it's a good indication that it will.

Too late, lol. A friend of mine recommended me Grave... and saw it a while ago. I was deeply touched by it, especially considering that I have a 4 yr old daughter. I've only seen Spirited Away besides Grave so far.

Grave of the Fireflies is pretty fantastic, but their best and deepest film is Princess Mononoke. Just make be prepared to watch it several times. It's not that it's hard to understand the first time, but it's a layered and nuanced film.

Heathen! You need to see Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa and Porco Rosso.

Looks neat. But Ghibli itself isn't enough to get me excited, since it's just their animation studio and they have no part in the story. If Miyazaki were a part, then I'd be drooling all over.

I still prefer Spirited Away, which is a little more liberal in its metaphors while keeping a simple story. Granted, I've only seen Mononoke twice, but it seemed pretty superficial in terms of its environmental themes (I guess Spirited Away has one scene like that too).

The sprites were cute, though. And it is a damn good movie.

I have a soft spot for Kiki's Delivery Service. And my girlfriend loves Howl's Moving Castle, although it's not my favourite Ghibli movie.

My Neighbour Totoro is great, too. Can't beat a movie about being a kid.

I love them all. I actually didn't list my favorite Miyazaki movie, Lupin the Third and the Castle of Cagliostro, simply because most folks don't seem to love it as much as I do. Personally I think it is one of the best adventure movies ever made. It is cliched as hell and that is why it works. It is a timeless story.

I've seen alot of thosem ovies and I see the screenshots and I dont get why people think its any good. I think that art style sucks. Level 5 has only made one killer game(dark cloud 2) and the rest have been disappointments(rogue galaxy, dq8). My hype factor over this game is -50. It would have to have some of the most awesome game mechanics and combat EVER to make me want to choke down the horrable graphics.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but with all due respect man, you have wierd taste in animation. In one of your previous posts, you think the new Cartoon Network Transformers animation is good. How can you think that style is good and say Studio Ghibli's art style sucks?:?

You think this is awesome animation?!:|

Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense to me.

Well you claimed you loved the cartoon, so that would be a good indication that you also loved the art style.

I never liked a cartoon where I hated the art style.

Its exploration of environmental themes is actually pretty nuanced. I think it may have a bit of a Twilight Princess effect going for it; we're so conditioned to tune out the "won't someone please think of the environment" plea, that we sort of ignore anyone who might actually have something interesting to say. It's a pretty incredible treatise on environment, and life in general.

I've been watching Miyazaki's works before he joins Studio Ghibli. For those who are interested, you should watch Conan boy of the future.

What's the genre of this game?
