Free for PC owners, $7 for X360 owners. I recall there were Gears maps that Epic wanted to offer for free, but MS made them charge for them, so I don't think the disparity is Valve trying to kick X360 owners in the head or anything.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/left-4-dead-crash-course-campaign-dlc-free-on-pc-7-on-360/

Targeted for this September, "Crash Course" is an entirely new campaign that "bridges the gap" between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign (think: rooftop helicopter evacuation) and the beginning of "Death Toll" (think: turnpike riddled with abandoned cars). The new campaign includes "new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale," and it spreads the mayhem across a co-op campaign, survival maps, and a "streamlined version" of the Versus mode experience lasting 30 minutes.

All this for the asking price of ... $0? Oh, but that's on PC only, friend. If you've waged war on the reanimated dead via your Xbox 360, you'll be paying 560 ($7 Earth bucks) for the privilege of adding "Crash Course" to your repertoire. Think about it this way, 360 gamers: if the original $60 game included just four maps, $7 for this set is a value, right?

That's good to hear although it might be a case of too little too late. I'm still unhappy about the whole Left 4 Dead 2 thing. I am not interested in yearly installments and I won't be buying Left 4 Dead 2. It took Valve eight months to release content for this game. Obviously, Left 4 Dead 2 is the culprit for that. I seriously doubt we'll be getting anything beyond this point especially since Left 4 Dead 2 is launching so soon. Meanwhile, two years after its release, Team Fortress 2 is entering a closed beta in which Valve will test new tweaks to the game on a competetive level. That's why I'm still playing Team Fortress 2 two years after its release and why I stopped playing Left 4 Dead a month or two after its launch.

Yeah, the 560 point tag is definitely Microsoft's doing. If anything, I'd wager that Valve's haggling over the price led to a significant cut down from the usual 800 points that most DLC packs are labeled with.

Yea. Thats why we get almost no TF2 content, because Microsoft doesn't wana give it away for free. So they're saving up all the DLC they make for the PC version and putting it all in one package for the cheapest price Microsoft will let them set it at. I expect nothing less for L4D

I refuse to buy this expansion. I don't like the idea of Valve making a sequel of L4D so early. I'll just wait until next November for L4D3. I'll probably be buying this series on the odd numbers. Also, why the hell are they releasing this expansion 2 months before the release of L4D2? Is it because its trying to have the subliminal message with the number 2?

It's on Steam's news page, so it's true.

Anyway, yeah, I guess this is good news - although I'd much rather have a new full game with expanded gameplay features (like L4D2) than small map packs with identical gameplay like this one. Eh, at least this'll get me back into the L4D mood before the new one's out.

Except that it's not a new full game, but a glorified map pack containing five new very short maps. The only thing that's full about it is the price. Also, Team Fortress 2 plays a hell of a lot different now than it did at launch. There's even a closed beta underway that will tweak the game even further. So yeah, it's fully possible to expand gameplay features to the original game through updates and expansions.
