I was on vacation for this past week and decided to make a run through Assassin's Creed. I thought it was a fairly good game, but there was just one (huge) oversight. No subtitles. I'm fairly hard of hearing and subtitles can be potentially game-breaking for me if it's a story-driven game. I don't see how, in the modern day gaming world, subtitles are not standard. Shouldn't they be located right underneath the sliders for Sound Effects and Music. Little things like that can determine whether I buy a new game for full price or wait until it hits a bargain used bin somewhere.

Anyways, I just wondered if anyone has any other pet peeves when it comes to games. I know a lot of people can't stand that not every game institutes a "save anywhere" feature, and I can agree with that.

manditory training modes. They go on way too long and force you to learn techniques that you will never really use over the course of the game any way. they pretty much force you to play the way the developers wanted you to, instead of letting you play the way you find the most fun.

Lots of obvious visual clipping annoys me.

Really dumb AI and AI that can see you from miles away and have perfect aim (Far Cry 1)

Poorly optimized/poor framerate.

Annoying music

Escort missions.

bad controls

bad user interface.

Not having an objectives tab/menu in a less-linear game can be really frustrating. I came back to Zelda: Phantom Hourglass after about a month or two of absence, and I could not figure out what I was supposed to be doing. Almost put me off the game again.

The only excuse that big is an earthquake on all sides of the gaming map. OH GOD! don't get me started on manditory training modes...one game really took the ball with that...can't remember which one. I would have to say all type of restrictions annoy me, invisible wall I don't mind so much but stuff like story that restricts freedom really annoys me and I agree with games needing subtitles as well. Games todays ages should be fairly open and free but a lot of them aren't...I suppose elements of story are what really annoy me...parts that you should get a choice in but don't...that really pees me off.

Controls. I bought Genma Onimusha back in the summer based on some good reviews, sat down to play it, and I'm debating on just throwing it out. The game controls like crap, worst movement control ever.

-Too few checkpoints. Fight, die, start the ENTIRE level over again...sometimes 30-45 minutes of replay.

-Cutscenes that you can't skip.

-Monotonous hack n' slash gameplay.

-Bad/annoying voice acting (I'm looking at you Burnout 3!)

unskippable cutsenes! Honestly, do developers think we actually like it when we are forced to watch the same scene over and over again when we are already getting frusterated with a tough battle!? :x

Tank controls? I was thinking of getting it too, but if it's got tank controls, I might reconsider.

- when there's no jump...but it depends on the game if able to jump is helpful.

- not able to climb over low things...in some games there are 2-4 feet objects blocking the way but you can't go over it

- at this gen...can't save anytime anywhere is unenjoyable

I'm with you on that one, the inability to jump is a bad one including beaten into second place by those games that for arbitrary reasons say that you can jump a sandbag but not that piece of wood? Most of the guilty parties have you as a one man wrecking machine that can only be stopped by (insert pointless object here).

Oh yeah, it has tank controls, as does the second game in the series (which is my favorite one). The game basically plays like a hack and slash Resident Evil, minus the scares, but I still think it is quite a solid action game, once you wrap your head around the tank controls.

The_Sand_Man

It seems like all games make it mandatory for you to not hear the talking that's drowned out by music.
