My brother in law is an english guy and we were discussing yesterday the lack of games based in london. There are a ton of games in NYC (and citites based on NYC) and only a handful based in London (most of which are 4+ yrs old). NY is a great location for games dont get me wrong but London would be epic. We were wondering if maybe there is more red tape involved in getting a license to base a game in London?

Check out these two lists from wikipedia to see for yourself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_set_in_New_York_City

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_set_in_London

Maybe someone (possibly one of our brothers across the pond) could shed some light on the reasoning behind this...

Rockstar are bringing out a new game exclusivly for the 360 at some point (can't remember the name or where I saw it) but it will be set in the UK I think. It will be like "The Warriors" and will revolve around gangs and fighting

Isn't New York a lot larger than London? Why aren't there more games taking place in seoul or Mumbai? Their both much larger cities. If you go by popularity, there are far more popular cities than London, especially if you go beyond what we in the "west" thinks. Do you really think asians or the middle east does see London or New York as the centers of our world?

London is really boring aswell, if you think that London somehow would be something special then I can't see that you've traveled around Europe that much.

I have traveled abroad to London and through Italy. This isnt a topic about western superiority or anything else that you are twisting it into. London has more recognizable architecture and landmarks worldwide than seoul or mumbai as does NY. We arent taking about size here we are talking about setting.

And yes most of the civilized world does view NY and London as the central hubs of entertainment, fashion, art and more. This statement coming from numerous conversations with friends from Italy, London, China, Brazil and Pakistan. Why do you think all the countries of the world take such an interest in our movies, games, and music..much more than entertainment produced natively?

I think every country has interesting settings to offer the gaming culture. This topic is about LONDON.

and your statement about London being boring discredits you as any sort of intellectual or culturist as anyone who has spent any time in London can tell you it is anything BUT boring...at least to the traveler with an adventurous spirit.

I think it's due to the fact that most people would have trouble handling our huge clock.

*facepalm* Are you serious mate? You're lookin' at this from the perspective of a western, You can't deny that. Please, name a few land marks and recognizable architecture from Seoul or Mumbai. I'm 100% that you can't but that isn't because there are none. Let me guess, you're American ya?

My brother lives in london and my girlfriend is from Seoul. So yes london is far less recognisable than seoul. A game set in Korea would be a lot more enjoyable that one set in the UK because of the way the cities are laid out. Most of londin are small rise buildings just like here in Ireland. The main reason for not being based in london is because of the layout and the residents
