More and more, RPG's that come out just don't have that special something like they used to. And I'm hoping someone can help me find that again. Don't get me wrong, there are a few goodin's out there.

Anyway, im gonna give a list of rpgs i loved and ones i hated and Ask that you can suggest any RPG's (new and old) that might interest me. I just hate bland generic fantasy.

You could try Dragon Age: Origins (I'm not sure if you'd like Dragon Age 2. I don't like the plot FYI) then you could also try Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 (This is Start Wars so if you don't like SW don't get KOTOR) but my favourite RPG franchise would be Mass Effect. I recommend you try Mass Effect 1,2 and 3. The franchise is awesome. If it weren't then all the games wouldn't have scored 9+ out of 10, 90+ out of 100 or 4+ out of 5. Dragon Age: Origins-Steam (Recommended) Dragon Age 2-Origin (Not recommended) Knights of the Old Republic 1-Steam (Recommended) Knights of the Old Republic 2-Steam (Recommended) Mass Effect (1)-Steam (Recommended) Mass Effect 2-Steam (Recommended) Mass Effect 3-Origin (Recommended) However with Mass Effect 3 you'd have to ask other people who have played it whether or not to get Extended Cut. In my opinion the ending followed its lore better with Extended Cut.

Well i left out newer games so it's my fault, but I have played both KOTOR games, and loved em. Played all 3 Mass Effect games, they were alright lol. And I Did not care for Dragon Age Origins. Thanks though, KOTOR is definitely top material.

Old RPGs you might like:

Secret Of mana (snes)

pretty standard hack-and-slash, good story, semi-linear stats make each play-through slightly different (note: slightly).

-----

Star Ocean 1 and 2 (originally SNES, PSP re-make)

good games simmilar in style to namco's "tales" series. I'm told star ocean 3 (ps2) is good but never played it, star coean 4 (xbox360, ps3) is good, but the original ones were better.

-----

Digimon World 3 (PS1)

old-style turn-based RPG, designed to resemble an MMO in play-style. Can be a little slow but if you over-look that it's a good game.

-----

Digimon World 4 (PS2)

hack-and-slash RPG, slow loading times but otherwise great game.

-----

Rogue Galaxy (ps2)

unique game with good real-time combat, long storyline, end-game content and decent mini-games give it good replay value and a long play-time for 1 play-through (100+ hours minimum). most battles get a bit too easy once you can spam kisala's or jupis' spells.

-----

dark cloud, dark cloud 2(dark chronicle in EU) (ps2)

great RPGs with a focus on building towns, dungeons can be a bit repetitve, dark cloud 2's fishing system could be made into a game by itself.

-----

Some more recent RPGs not already mentioned:

White Knight Chronicles 2 (ps3)

multiplayer-focused RPG with a decent single-player too, semi-real-time battle system, nice town-building system which expands on the already-great one used in dark cloud 2 (it's from the same devs).

-----

lost Odyssey (xbox 360)

turn-based RPG, decent story, relatively high difficulty lvl if you don't purposely grind in places.

-----

The Last Remnant (xbox 360, PC(steam) )

Good game with a unique battle system, relatively high difficulty in the later stages and optional areas, LOTS of optional areas to explore with good rewards for doing so. no lvls as such, instead stats improve after every battle based on performance and skill/attack/magic usage.

edit: why does this forum ignore new-lines? O_o totally wrecked my layout....

You really must play The Witcher and The Witcher 2... though set in a dark fantasy world featuring dwarves, elves and magic, they are anything but bland and generic, and feature a really enigmatic ambiguous protagonist, complex political intrigue and boobs. Imagine an Eastern European Game Of Thrones with more monsters and less chivalry. The first game has a few minor glitches that might irritate, but the Witcher 2 is absolutely stunning in many ways, though demands a fairly decent PC graphically. Get them both from Gog, DRM-free.

I don't like Digimon world games and i tried rogue galaxy and couldntget into it..the characters were too ridiculous.

Also, I prefer games where your character is not someone with a pre-set name and things like that. I like At Least getting to name my character if not customizing other things about them.

And despite the action battle system, radiata story looks too much final fantasy for my tastes. Sorry

Gothic 2.

It has its quirks but is a fantastic experience providing you can cope with the old-fashioned graphics.
