What's a really good survival horror game other than dead space?

Resident Evil 5 is an obvious candidate...but a little more under-the-radar would be the Condemned series, which is first-person, or The Darkness, which is also first person.

About every Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, Siren, Clocktower game. Condemned: Criminal Origins is also a note worthy survivial horror game.

I replied on your other one as well, but what the user above me said about Condemned (1 not 2), and I wouldn't consider RE 5 a survival horror game.

How in god's name is The Darkness a survival horror game? Anyway, I would say that the STALKER series represents the best in terms of an open world survival experience.

Try the Penumbra series. Not exactly survival horror but Penumbras are actually scary.

If you have a PS2, check out Silent Hill 2 and 3 and the Fatal Frame series. If you have a Gamecube, check out the resident evil remake. If you have a pretty good PC, check out Penumbra.

For this generation, the best survival horror game has been Condemned 1. This game is generally scary. 2 is sort of a disappointment. But Condemned is the rare horror game that is really scary without crutching your character, but you're not overpowered either. And there is an awesome serial killer murder mystery in there as well. Plus its fun. So that's my choice.

I would highly recomend the condemned series as these games have great stories and have such a tense, scary atmosphere they also have some cool features such as using forensic tools to help you on your objectives.

The port of Resident Evil over to the Wii is really good. I'm playing Dead Space now and I'm enjoying it.

Survival horror games kind of died this gen. If you want good survival horror games you have to go back to at least last gen. Try out the Fatal Frame series, Silent Hill 1-4, Resident Evil (REmake, Code Veronica, and 0-3. RE4 and RE5 are not survival horror), and Siren.

I agree with this. While RE4 isn't horror, it has some 'spooky' moments in it.

I haven't played all of these games mind you but I have heard good things about Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil series on their respective consoles, Silent Hill series (Silent Hill 2 has a better re-release on the Xbox apparently but SH3 is PS2 exclusive).

I myself have really enjoyed F.E.A.R. and Resident Evil 4 but they aren't really scary or anything, just have a great, spooky atmosphere. Then again, I didn't think Dead Space was all that scary either and you may find these two games much scarier than I did.

Ill second Eternal darkness for the gamecube, but unless youve got a wii and/ or gamecube sitting around....

Id strongly recommend Call of Cthulu: Dark corners of the earth. Its an original xbox game that runs just fine on the 360....Its highly overlooked, based on the writings of HP Lovecraft (a true horror genius; and bits of his prose are scattered throughout the game!), and delivers a few truly disturbing moments....The scare factor runs a lil thin by the end, but it is all in all a fantastic game. DONT read spooilers or use a walkthrough!!

I agree RE has gone so far from the survival horror genre it's more like the survival weird virus outbreaks genre, it used to be good but now i don't like it so much, an I'd say almost all of the Silent hill series.

I would consiter it as an action game now.

F.E.A.R.

This gen needs some more survivor horror games. Did anyone see the game-play from what Resident evil 4 was originally going to be like? they should go ahead and make that game (with an update on controls and graphics, etc) I love survivor horror, but this gen sucks (for survivor horror). I'd like to see an entirely new IP. And I'm looking forward to see how Dead Space 2 turns out.

Bioshock - not a survivor horro game. But one of the best parts about horror games is the atmosphere, and bioshock has a great atmosphere... and some creepy moments here and there
