Over the past 2 years I find it hard for me to purchase an RPG thanks to intense Online Multi-Player games and a tight budget. Every time I see trailers and previews of them I tell myself, "I got to play it", but once released I over look them and think about replay value and the online community I play with. MMORPG's have online play and are really fun but at a cost(game purchase and subscription) I dont find acceptable.

Anyone else find it hard these days to fit RPG's into their game library with all the other titles available?

I'll admit, RPG's are super time-consuming on pretty much any system, but I still enjoy playing them.

But lose replay value? How so. Usually RPGs have all the side-quests and such to keep you occupied.

many rpg's are great for people on a tight budget. they often have huge main quests and plenty of side missions to squeeze some value out of your purchase.

list your main consoles and rpg lineup. ill do my best to list some long quality rpg's. im sure others will help out too.

Have you concidered that RPG's don't fit your gaming tastes? There are no genres that are a good fit for everyone. Personally I have very little interest in RTS's like Starcraft.

Not all MMORPG's have a subscription. Guild Wars and Dungeon Runners are two examples.

To answer your question, no I don't have any problem fitting them into my library. RPG's are my favorites so I will always find a way to get some play time in.

I feel I'm in a similar boat as the OP. When i was younger RPGs were the back bone of my video game playing, I ate up every final fantasy, suikoden and ps1 era rpg i could. But now i've become more "action game" guy preferring to put alot of time into competitive online stuff in stead of going the rpg root. I was thinking now that were in the summer rut i may pick up lost odyssey or eternal sonata and try that out.

RPGs are the main course for me, whether it be an mmo or a console RPG, I guess since Im a writer I enjoy the stories and the amount of creativity it takes to create a believable world.

i enjoy rpg's. i think you are wrong about them losing replay value. think about it, games like mass effect and elder scrolls allow you to make different choices which should later make you want to play that game over again to at least see what would happen if you chose different options.

Things have been pretty bleak on the RPG scene for awhile. The last time I remember loving an RPG was FFXII, so it's been awhile for me.
FFXI was super-addictive, but I got sick of having to pay for the service. I felt like I was ripping myself off every minute I wasn't playing it, so it really became a chore.
I'm actually so RPG-starved that I'm seriously going to buy a DS just to play Dragon Quest IX when it comes out. DQ is the final frontier for old-school RPG addicts such as myself.
I currently only own Wii of the current gen systems . The Wii was just supposed to tide me over (more or less) until the other 2 could show me an RPG, or new RPG series that would make a $500+ investment in some new hardware worth the effort. But nada.
I'm still waiting.

Well, it seems like you're talking about MMOs, which I really wouldn't consider a RPG in the traditional sense. I always thought that RPGs were single player experiences with a story, characters, etc. MMORPGs, are a different genre I think.

What about Japanese RPGs like Final Fantasy or some western non-online RPGs like Mass Effect? How do you feel about them?

Console RPGs do get boring =/ I've played every final fantasy game and a ton of other rpgs and I'm burnt. You should look into some free MMORPGs.

i don't think mmo's are all that great. especially the ones where you are required to have a bunch of expensive computer hardware. console rpg's are still cool to me. im still into the traditional rpg's which is why i got Lost Odyssey yesterday for the 360.

Funny thing when I played WoW, I ended up saving a load of cash. Instead of spending a couple of hundred bucks a month on games, it was just $15 USD a months for my subscription.

You're losing interest because regular RPGs can't keep you hooked the same way MMORPGs / MMOs can...

You should pick up Eternal Sonata. It's not the longest RPG around but the characters are interesting and the story line isn't too bad.

I can really get into JRPGs anymore.
All the action games I've been playing have rotted my brain again.
Been playing alot of Dungeon Explorer for DS so... maybe all is not lost for me. :(

Disgaea 3 is coming out next month. Other than that, I've been having an RPG dryspell as well. Picked up FFIV for the DS though. I'm having fun playing through it again.

No , i don't think so. They aren't my favorite genre ,as i prefer mainly action-RPGs and most of them are turn-based , but they still are quite interesting to me. Many extras , characters with strong personality , interesting plot .....All of them make RPGs a good choise ....
