so, i recently got a bug up my cornhole to play Lord of the Rings: the Third Age. it was a decent last gen console RPG that came out on all systems, PS2, GC & also ported to the XBOX. well luckily they just added it to the list of NEW backwards compatible games to the 360 so i grabbed it again for 5$ used. it may be one of the best underrated RPGs of the last generation of consoles... anyways, remember hearing about EA developing a sequel and the working title was something like "The White Council"? and then unfortunately it was put on hold indefinitely... they boasted a more open ended Middle~Earth adventure compared to the very linear yet surprisingly very fun "Third Age". Well i got to thinking about the recent announcement that EA was working on a LotR game again but not necessarily "the white council" but they didnt deny that either. my mind wandered even further and i realised that this announcement came not long after EAs acquisition of Bioware!!! whats that mean? well maybe Bio will develop "the white council" (i hope that they do) and give it the feel of their other persona injected RPG quests such as Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate & Neverwinter Nights. what i mean by this is, Bioware is very good at creating a gaming world and letting you inject yourself as a character as your create someone in the beginning and take on the adventure as you see fit with someone you can model after any persona you like...
a bit about "The Third Age"...
I personally love it. im a late bloomer as far as LotRs is concerned. (im on the LotR bandwagon) im currently playing LotR Online and enjoying it moderately, and maybe even more if it was under a different development house. So for those of you who have not played "The Third Age" (hereafter referred to as TTA) its a eccentric RPG that does things its own way. if your looking for an RPG with a world map, towns to buy gear from and lots of wide open territory to explore, this one may not be for you. BUT, if you come in with an open mind you may just find a diamond in the rough. The game is linear but when your traversing the map area that just leads directly to another map area, you can explore that map all you want and you WILL be rewarded for it. Everything you find in the game, when equipped DOES show up, and i mean EVERYTHING!!! even a little necklace that the elf-maiden is known for... you have, boots, legs, torso gauntlets/bracers, helms and for those of you who love Middle~Earth mythology will love seeing the plethora of magic gear and wonderful treasure your characters find. At this point im a bit disappointed in LOTRO and i have more fun playing TTA!!!
so, lets hope that Bioware was given the reigns to do up a Middle~Earth adventure, i would love to play it~!!!
