So it seems after their big project was about wrapped up, Lucas Arts let about 75-100 people go with no warning whatsoever. One day you're working at a place, and the next day, your job has been stopped to be sent overseas, while leaving you out in the parking lot to get your stuff together to leave. Sorta makes me not want to buy Forced Unleashed. :\ http://kotaku.com/5013987/lucasarts-confirms-layoffs-says-the-dev-is-still-healthyhttp://kotaku.com/5013710/rumor-lucasarts-sees-massive-layoffs-outsources-jobs-%5Bupdated%5Dhttp://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168454 http://kotaku.com/5013987/lucasarts-confirms-layoffs-says-the-dev-is-still-healthy http://kotaku.com/5013710/rumor-lucasarts-sees-massive-layoffs-outsources-jobs-%5Bupdated%5D http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168454

Force unleashed seemed like an average game at best anyways. MAYBE worth a rental.

They laid off people true, but if you play COD 4 you may have seen the note saying lucas arts is hiring. I dont know how LA ties in with COD4 but it was up there no doubt

It went something like this:

Lucas Arts:

Activivsion is hiring, for job opp......bla bla bla.

Everyone assumes it's for outsourcing, what if TFU is just of poor quality, and so they laid off the entire team responsible?

If you read the links, Lucas Arts did discuss outsourcing, so it's not just an assumption.

It sucks that this has happened, but that's the way things are when you work.

It would have been different if they gave them warning. This is totally unacceptable behavior for any studio, to just drop about 100 people, without any warning.

Now I will be fully boycotting Lucasarts games from now on. Not releasing Force Unleashed on PC and citing "rampant piracy" as the reason for not doing so was pushing my patience, but as a long-time Star Wars and Star Wars game fan (I own eight SW games, two copies of KotOR, most of them for PC) this has gone far enough.

It's no wonder the US economy is going to enter a recession, every job is being outsourced overseas.

You must be living in fantasy land. Since when has any employer of any kind needed to give fair warning to their employees before firing them? If you want job security then dont work at a job that is project based. Work down at the docks or Starbucks. Many studios fire their employees after the work is complete it doesnt mean they wont re-hire them in another capacity or for another project.

It's been known for months that Lucasarts was downsizing. They basically want to become a publisher and have other outside developers make their games which, when you think about, makes sense given that all of their most recent hits, like KOTOR and Battlefront, were made by outside teams.

It's unlikely that the people working on Force: Unleashed were completely ignorant of these facts so hopefully they were already looking for new jobs. That said, I'm curious why so many of you think working on a game entitles you to lifelong employment. Most programmers and artists work game-to-game so there is no reason to vilify Lucasarts for what is considered a pretty normal industry practice.

That said, Force Unleashed looks amazing. Boycott if you must but that is a day one purchase for me personally.

You have more patience than me. I am boycotting until an intact PC version is released.

Hear me, all fans of PC gaming! Note that Fracture was never released on PC. Neither did TFU. The reason for this is as follows: each next game must have an engine superior to that of the previous game. Each engine superior to the previous engine must have greater system requirements than the previous engine. Thus, the system requirements are officially always one step ahead of PCs, and always will be, unless the gamers make an example of LucasArts; most probably by boycotting. LucasArts is not outsourcing game development alone, but game system development as well. Isn't the Xbox360 the last US-made system to support LucasArts-made games?

If the trend continues, it may spread to other game developers. However, it won't spread if LucasArts is made an example of by the gamers. It is every PC gaming fan's duty to boycott LucasArts for this. (More so conveniently if one is subscribed to SWG.) You have nothing to lose if you boycott, judging from where LucasArts is going. And if the boycott fails, LucasArts could bring about a systematic exclusion of the PC from high-end game releases.
