Obviously Ocarina wins if we're looking at them purely from a "revolutionary" standpoint. BUT based on the gameplay and the story alone, which wins?

My vote goes to Majora's Mask. Beautiful, deep, atmospheric story, and I love all the masks. It made for some very interesting puzzles. It also probably has the best character development in gaming history. Then there's the "three day" thing. Genius.

So, what say you?

Majora's Mask.

For the same reasons you already said.

In my opinion the best Zelda game period.

OOT ranks higher on my list just because it was so revolutionary and it awed me from start to finish, but throwing the whole revolutionary appeal aside I would say MM, so much stuff to do, lot's of secrets and I loved the setting.

Ocarina of Time, I liked the way the levels were set up but Majoras Mask was also an absolutely crazy beautiful amazing game.

Majoras mask has more graphics and more realistic but the story is boring and annoying but Ocarinas story is large, fun, and a more interesting plot

Like everyone else has basicly said both great games and while occarina is more revolutionary on terms of just gameplay i'm giving majoras mask the edge awesome story and the masks just added to a great gameplay mechanic and the time loop was great

I played MM way before OoT actually. So when I played OoT and I thought MM was better and I still do. The 3 day cycle was hard for me at the time since I was young, buy I thought MM was an awesome N64 game.

When I think of sequels to games that have revolutionary value, I don't consider many of them better than the original. I loved every GTA game that came after GTA3, but I would still consider GTA3 my absolute favourite. Super Mario Sunshine was a great game, but SM64 remains superior in my mind (though of course many feel the same on this one). Metroid Prime blew me away. But none of the sequels did for me what the first one did. Majora's Mask, however, is a rare exception for me. I consider it superior to OoT, and I enjoyed it more (and don't get me wrong, I loved OoT). Aside from LttP, I'd consider it the best Zelda game of all time. It's Nintendo at their best. Zelda at its best.

I hated Majora's Mask.

Bought it on release and was so disappointed.

The whole thing that was great about OOT was how relaxing it was to play. It put you in another world, and you were free to go about it as you please. No rush. Just fun, for hours and hours. It had a positive vibe. Fun characters and an interesting story.

MM on the other hand was nothing but rushing around. I really hate when they put time limits in games... any games... and to have a whole game based on one... :x

The game was also glooming and depressing really.

For me, MM doesn't even come close to the epicness of OOT.

Didn't like the time system on MM. If it wasn't for that, I probably would have liked it more, everything else was great.

True, it got in the way of the gameplay. The world did have more depth than hyrule though. I can see how MM is an improvement in many ways but if I had to play one right now it would probably be OoT. Somehow it just feels like a more rewarding game.

In terms of gameplay and story my vote goes to Marjora's Mask. I loved the usage of the three-day system and the use of time which helped create a living breathing world.

I liked Majora's Mask more. The world felt a lot richer than Ocarina's, though OoT's world was vast, with a few small secrets. MM's time system gave the world more depth, having different things occur on different days, let's not forget the ridiulous 3 day long sidequest it had.

OoT was more like the 3D realization of the classis Zeldas, where as MM tried just taking a step in a completely different direction.

Benevolentbob

I honestly never found it to be annoying. Now, the time limit in the Ocean King Temple in Phantom Hourglass is another story. But in MM I thought the 3 Days time limit added to the depth and intrigue of the game. It added to that eery feeling of paranoia that the game has. But I never felt restricted. I always felt like I had all the time in the world, for the most part.

I just beat Ocarina of Time on the VCyesterday. I consider it to be one of the greatest games of all time. But I just felt much more satisfied by Majora's Mask. I can't explain it. There's just something about it that I like more.

I like OoT more, since it had something like child and adult link, and the three colors of clothing. Majora's Mask was great, too.

Majora's Mask was a great game. I love the masks, the dungeons, the side quests... But, I like OoT better. It has a better story, and the story really means a lot in the Zelda games. I love the soundtrack in MM, but the soundtrack in OoT is just legendary.

ocarina of time was fun and exciting all at once but majoras mask was more of a where timing you and you gotta do this by this time so it was more of a pain to play and not as enjoyable majoras mask has more to do though i will admit

I loved Majora's Mask. I liked the mood of the game and it was fun. However, I choose Ocarina of Time. I love a good challenge and usually I'm not the type of person who needs help with games but I had to use a guide to get through some of the game-Majora's Mask. The ending was tough for me too (the mini game type things at the end). So, I never completed the game. I gave up and I hate that because I do think it was a great game.

So, OoT takes the cake!

I'll go with Ocarina, because I loved it...and because Majora's Mask introduced that disgrace to Nintendo Tingle and I just didn't like the mask-based gameplay...=/ I had no idea what I was supposed to do the first three of the four times I tried to play it...=/

Ocarina of time, Majoras mask = suck, for one I hated the music, second the characters were plane stupid, and tingle. Also I really dont want to have to play the same thing over and over again. I wish I would of just bought Ocarina of time, but my younger cousin said that he would give it to me when I see him again (that was months ago). I sold Majoras Mask, good riddance.

Majora's Mask is many times better than Oot. The atmosphere in that game was so heavy, it was truly beautiful. I loved that the story was so mature, and that it was so much darker than the other Zelda games.

This is exactly how I feel. I appreciate what MM was able to pull off, I really do, but with OoT I feel like I'm drifting off into another world where anything could happen. MM, despite its depth, feels really 'claustrophobic' to me, it feels incredibly uninviting in multiple ways and the world feels more thrown together. Clock Town is great, possibly the greatest town/city in any game period, but OoT's Hyrule is far more enjoyable to explore then Termina.

Really I can't choose which, Majora's Mask had the better story and atmostphere, while Ocarina had the greatest bosses and dungeons ever in a game. I just don't know. But the mood in each of the games is Yin-Yang

OOT- Put me in a great mood, happy, and Valiant

Majora's Mask- Does anybody else get depressed from this game or creeped out? When I first played the game I was blown away how dark it was for an E-rated game, seriously if the cycle ended everyone died! I think this one of the first Zelda game where death wasso blatant. I didn't even know Nintendo could delve intosuch dark territory.

it's dark in a good way, not an immature and angsty over the top way. nintendo is subtle when they things like that. the metroids are also quite melancholy.

MM feels so much more alive and busy; lots of little graphical details as well.

Majora's Mask by far. I like OOT, but Majora's Mask had so many great features like: the mask collecting quests, the 3 day cycle, the fact that it didn't take place in Hyrule and that Ganondorf wasn't the bad guy, the ability to transform into a Goron, Zora or Deku.

Majoras Mask, the story is far more interesting and I love how dark it is.

its also a harder game because you have the time limit, I remember when I was little playing it I would have plenty of time when I would run out of days haha.

i would have said Majoras mask but being a kid and the horrible horrible time limit ruined it for me. I REALLY REALLY REALLY HATE TIME LIMITS.
