When I say that making exclusive games is a bad idea, I don't mean games like Uncharted, Gran Turismo, Halo or Gears of War that are trademark of a particular console, those games are fine being exclusives.

I mean it when a company that usually produces multiplatform games makes an exclusive, I don't understand why they do this. Wouldn't they get more money if they released the game on all consoles?

Since sometimes directors of games want to make games that use features specific to a system.

Like how the PS3 has pressure sensitive face buttons but the Xbox 360 doesn't.

When I see one console manufacturer paying a publisher so that I, as an owner of the other console, can't play the game, well...it sure as hell doesn't win them any popularity points with me. And I'm not going to buy a second console when I've got a backlog of over 10 games on my current console, that would be ridiculous.

It really speaks to the motives of the publishers as well. You hear these people talking about how important it is to provide a great gameplay experience to their customers, but if the money is there, they're perfectly happy to provide no gameplay experience at all to half the gamers out there.

Only if you chose to release it on a Nintendo platform.

But seriously... no yeah, I'm totally being serious.

Frankly I have a problem with this new trend Nintendo seems to have with making games/products exclusive to gamestop stores than I do exclusives on their systems.

Not if the console manufacturer bribed them with enough money to keep it on one system.

Exclusive games are bad....for business. I do not see the trend continuing. Why would a dev limit the source of income for its product?

Ports cost time and money and audience tastes differ, so it might not make sense to release game X for all systems.

That being said, most high profile exclusives owe their existence to checks from first parties.

I agree.. If I want to play Gears I have to buy a 360, but what about if I only want to play Gears and I don't give a damn about Halo or Forza? Am I paying 250€ to play three games? Makes no sense.

Unless it's first-party as it can influence people's purchase of a console.

It annoys me, but I don't think it's a bad idea.

It is a good question, and personally if I had it my way, there would be no exclusive titles at all so everyone can experience a game without feeling left out.
