Yes, that is a widely know trick. And they are turtles, not ducks.Rocky32189
*snicker*
Yeah, that's a pretty old trick. In fact, a lot of us discovered it on the NES version.

While playing Mario Bros on SNES in his childhood days, my friend found one cheat accidentally. I would like to share that cheat here. I don't know whether you all know this or not. It was around some level 3-2 where you have to climb the stairs before jumping onto the flag. While you are about to climb the steps, you can see one duck coming down the steps. Here's what you do. Just wait on the second step and let it come down. When it is just about to come down to the 3rd step, you jump on it in such a way that it is not able to go down, but it strikes the step and is stopped by your falling down from the jump. This way, you can keep jumping and the duck won't go anywhere. As you keep on jumping this way, you will keep getting infinite 1ups continuously as long as you do. It was freaking awesome find for us...lol!barcodedagent
Mario bros? on the Snes? I think you're confused..... Do you mean Super Mario Bros. on NES? or maybe Super Mario Allstars on SNES? There is actually a game called Mario bros FYI. It's the original arcade game. Look it up here on Gamespot. Mario Bros. is NOTHING like Super Mario Bros at all.
and I have to admit i thought how you called them DUCKS was pretty funny! Have you ever seen a duck that had a shell? Or didnt have wings? LOL. I'm sure you know now, but those are TURTLES. and yes that trick is pretty cool. but hard to do.
edit: and to whoever tried to scare the kid, NO you will NOT get in trouble for sharing a trick. It's not illegal to find a way to get extra 1-ups in Super Mario Bros.... Especially if it's a trick that everyone knows. and it's not cheating either. Using a Warp Tube might be a shortcut, but extra lives dont even beat the game.
I am really amazed to see that so many people are aware of that trick. Coz it was something that we found accidentally. How did you people find out?barcodedagent
In all honesty, that's a very good question. Before the advent of the internet, I have no idea how tricks like this became common knowledge. Just goes to show you how strong the word-of-mouth network was back then. You'd play a game, discover something, tell your friend, who'd tell HIS friends . . . etc.
Yea, I know they were turtles, but we friends loved to call them duckies instead of turtles, so I just put it here by mistake, I am sorry for that. Lol. Some friend at some point showed me, i dont really remember. I did have a Nintendo Power subscription, but I doubt it was in there since it was a glitch and not a cheat that was programmed in.
Yeah, I've known about that trick since I was a kid... probably around the age of 6 or 7. It is a pretty cool trick though. I remember that one of the symbols if you get enough lives is a blue diamond shape that is elongated and not very wide. I will have to go back and check, but if I remember correctly if you get too many lives you drop back down to 1, and if you die, it's game over! Something like that.... I remember doing the trick through 5 or 6 lives just letting time run out, and then doing it the next round... I also think I remember the game freezing after you die if you collected too many lives.

I think you somehow actually thought they were ducks for some reason...... but its ok LOL. and yeah it is odd how EVERYONE that's played Super Mario Bros. very much knows that trick. and even if you havent played the game in like 10yrs you'll still remember it. I got the game for my Gamebody Advanced and I cant get that trick to work, maybe the glitch only works on the home version? anyone know for sure if its possible on the GBA?
I never knew about it till I read this thread, geez, just when you think you knew all of the Super Mario Bros. tricks.
