So this has to be my first new thread in the general forum in well over a decade...
Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection is out now digitally, and as I think most of us know, Marvel vs Capcom 2 is simultaneously one of the most popular and one of the most unapproachable fighting games in history. The only reasonable advice that can be given to someone just getting into it is, good luck and stay mentally strong because it's going to be a LONG grind before anyone can even scratch the high levels of play.
However, ranked modes in fighting games don't discriminate off the jump. Day one, everyone is a rookie, and that throws actual newcomers in the same competitive pool with people who may have been dominating it for decades with no SBMM filter capable of protecting the former from the latter until there's at least some sample size of the disparity.
This is coming to bear right now on MvC2 because Justin Wong - basically the Michael Jordan of fighting games for those who don't know, who made a name for himself specifically on MvC2 - has been going into ranked basically since the moment the game launched and beating people to the point that they're refunding the game through Steam and blaming him specifically for it, a fact that he is steering into wholeheartedly.
Now, nothing Justin is doing is at all against the TOS, and those of you who might remember me from back in the day know I have more than a little of this in me as well (I was similarly menacing 30th Anniversary upon its release) so I don't want to imply that I'm against what he's doing, at all. However, because this is actually leading to refunds on Steam, I do have to wonder if this is causing any indigestion at Capcom or if they're just waiting for the rankings to settle and stop the bleeding naturally.
I don't know, do you guys think this is going to come to a head?
