Metal gear collection won't work.

I'm very sorry if this is a bad forum for this but the original ps2 board is dead. Anyway i got a fat ps2 a few weeks ago and it has passed my expectations in every way but i bought the metal gear solid collection w/ all the 3 games in it and the first one comes up black and only has sound. The other 2 come up but when you select new game it comes back to the start menu. Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be? the console is fairly old the memory card has plenty of space. I have 1 ps1 dual shock and 1 ps2 dual shock. PLZ help!

Heh, that thing that brings you back to the title screen? You have to press O instead of the regular x.

But as for the video not coming up on the first game? It might have to do with your tv. Some newer tvs won't support resolutions under 480i *which the ps1 is about 100 pixels under*. My hdtv will show it, but its super laggy and sluggish. Maybe try it on different tv?

Are you able to boot other PS1 CSs with this PS2? Older systems be a little wonky when booting certain types of disc media, this may be the reason why your copy of MGS1 wont booting properly.

As for MGS2 and 3, that seems like a strange error. It could be that you are not pressing the correct button. In Japan, games typically use O as the "confirm" button whereas this is usually mapped to X in American games. Most of the time they change around the button configuration when games are localized, but sometimes the control scheme is left intact. This can be counter-intuitive and confusing if you are used to things being the other way around.

Pressing X when "Start New Game" is selected will exit back to the title screen, pressing O will start a new game.
