Well today I am asking you guys if you prefer either Contra or Metal Slug.
OR
Well, personally, while both are great challenging shooters, one has a better focus. You feel more connected with the characters and the game (even plot wise sometimes) in Metal Slug games, and each area is designed to be a challenge but with practice, you can figure out alternate ways to do things. Not to ention actual branching paths even in the earlier games and much mre fun weapons and better hit collisions as well as the fact that when you push a button the character reacts when you press it which is an issue in later Contra games.
Contras ok to, with it all out action and its main focus n difficulty, even though a lot of the games actually have rushed or badly designed stages which they pass of as being made on purpose to be hard (Which is BS) when that's not even close. Sometimes yes, but not all the time and the fans seem to deny anything POSSIBILITY of that happening, other games do this as well (Megman Zero anyone?) where bad design choices are passed off as challenges including areas where you HAVE TO GET IT. Odd, that must mean it's a flaw.
Contra sacrafices variety in a lot of its games (Not all) for ambushes of enemies and keeping you on your feet and not expecting anything. Metal Slug has ambushes, but the enemies aren't just throw at you, enemies have unique attacks and patterns, some require strategy to get through, you have more ways of attacking either by weapons, animals, machines, and etc. Not to mention you can get bonus items by recusing soldiers, which also makes Metal Slug seem more like an Arcade Adventure game then just a straight up shooter, but it has games that do that as well. Also the enemy reactions and your reactions to certain situations. Metal Slug just seems to be more of a complete game instead of just making run and shoot generic arcade shooter.
SO what's your opinion on the better series?
