IGN is reporting that Nintendo will be releasing all three Metroid Prime games on a single disc with updated controls and 480p widescreen support for a low low price of $50. That is a pretty solid deal if you ask me.:)

Along with the new control and display options, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 Echoes has also been given the same medal system that's already in Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. As you complete missions you'll be given medals specific to the task completed – each medal has a specific color, and you spend these tokens in the new front-end's option menu for unlockables. Each unlockable has a specific value: you can buy concept art, music, or special options like a screen grabbing utility so you can save screenshots to the internal storage and send them to friends. Some of the more coveted unlockables are far more expensive: we saw a few items that required three red, one blue, three yellow, two green, one orange, and two purple medals. You can also score medals by linking friends over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and earn friend vouchers.

As long as the updated version of Prime doesn't include the original elevator lock-ups, I'm sold. Part of me wishes it was a little cheaper (maybe $40) as I already own the first two games and have no issues with the controls, and could pick up MP3 for $20 or so, but it's still a good deal.

It's just a port, so it looks like local. By the way, all of the MP games had 480p already. This game adds widescreen support, and it looks like the graphics are going to be improved as well. I'll be picking this up.

it's a good deal. anyone who has played corruption and then gone back to the first two primes will feel that the controls are now dated, so this brings everything up to date, cleans some things up like loading times, adds some bloom, and keeps them all in the same place on the wii.

of course, it's best news for newcomers to the series, but as one of my favourite series, i welcome it.

now bring on metroid prime 4! *roars*

I'll say the same exact thing I said everywhere else: I'd rather play the original Gamecube copies, not the gimped Wii versions.

I really do want to get this! This would allow me to get Metroid prime 2: echoes again, since I somehow lost the game disc for it >.>, and having improved visuals and controls only sweetens the deal! :D

Mainly from a speed runner's perspective.NPC Metroid Prime has been out in Japan for a while, and there are a number of differences found that make it significantly less ideal for speed running. Not gimped to pretty much the rest of the world, but gimped to me.

I wonder if they'll have included some new enemies/puzzles for the new wii controls, or made other enemies respond differently.

According to Kotaku, the games' content is still the same. Aside from some graphical touch-ups and I suppose bug fixes, the games should be the same.

Ah. I was hoping that they might include a couple of extra goodies to help the new wii control scheme. Ah well, they're still fantastic games all the same.

I own Metroid Prime, and I owned Metroid Prime 2 (it wasn't good enough, IMO, to justify staying in my collection), so I don't know how much this appeals to me. But if this drives down the price for the standalone version of Metroid Prime 3, I'm all for it.

How does that happen? :P Metroid Prime was easily one of the finest games of the previous generation.

Well, the only version not gimped to you would be the very first release of Metroid Prime. Any and all subsequent releases have changes meant to stop speed-running via skipping parts of the game.

I have all three already, I just want the first one with Wiimote controls, what happens to me. dvader654

Nintendo will happily take your $50 to give it to you. They will even throw in the other 2 just because! Aren't they great?

But yeah, I don't even know if I want Metroid Prime with the new controls. Considering the game was built around assuming you LOCKED ON to all your enemies, I imagine it being harder if it controlled like 3. Then again, who knows besides people who got the Japanese release?

I'll get it if it ever drops to $30... but knowing Nintendo, that'll never happen. I doubt the updated controls are worth buying the games again anyways (I already have 1, 2, and 3 and paid about $90 for all three)... especially if there is nothing else different.

i only havent played the third. i still own the first two for gcn. im not sure if i want to replay through them, really, so i may just buy the third game, standalone, when i get around to it. if i did that, it would match the first two games better than two games, and a compilation of the three.

This is precisely everything I hoped for in this package. I am dying to play the first MP and possibly the second using the Wii controls. And though widescreen wasn't a "must-have" for me, it was always a "nice-to-have", so that's very pleasant too. The fact they put it all on one disc makes it a fantastic bargain, given that I was previously willing to buy both on one disc for $30 a piece -- this gives me the third game too for a $10 discount.

*Sigh* The problem is I won't be able to buy it. I am on a "fast" of buying first-party Nintendo games right now, and it's a very painful one. With Punch-out already available, this Wii-control MP trilogy, and the new Professor Layton coming out, I think it's going to be a long and painful separation.

Yeah, Nintendo could've sold each one for $29.99 and tacked on Wii-mote controls as it's selling point. Isn't Capcom releasing Resident Evil REMake, Zero, and already RE4 for $29.99? Kudos to Nintendo for doing it this way.

You guys are forgetting something here- the first Metroid Prime already ran in 480p and looked pretty good in widescreen. Metroid Prime 2 didn't have widescreen though...

It isn't like Nintendo is adding that much. This is a quick and easy effort for them. It still looks to be a good deal, especially if you get the original controls included, but it's only because of Nintendo's past behavior that we are surprised by this. This sorta thing should be expected.

You could adjust the ratio in MP, but you couldn't get true 16:9 out of either of the MP games. I mentioned in here that they were running 480p already, but a lot of people forget that even though Nintendo removed component support from the GC in 2003, they kept putting 480p in their first party games; even Fire Emblem and Zelda had it. I know more than a few people in person that are excited about this, simply because $50 for these three games is a great deal, and the deathmatch mode in MP2 may benefit from the controls.

Oh yeah, I know the tech will be upgraded, but it's not like the original games were slouches at all. I would argue that they still look great on my Gamecube, though I guess I did forget about how Nintendo stopped putting component ports in there. I also totally forgot that 2 had multiplayer. Here's hoping that Nintendo really fixes that part up so that it's actually pretty fun this time around.

I'd be curious to see whether or not they're going to drop the lock-on system in the two Metroid Prime games. I would say they shouldn't for the single player portion, but should for the multiplayer part of Prime 2.

I played MP3 but didn't think it was very good. However, people on forums keep saying it was the weakest of the three in terms of exploration, so I'm kind of curious how the first two are (especially the first) by comparison. This one's a maybe for me.
