Interesting im looking forward to GOW4, if next year is a close release, then that would mean the PS4 is due out the year after. Its the same thing that happened to GOW2 and the PS3s release.

All right! And now that the Greek gods are gone, let's go for the Roman ones! ...wait...

I'm curious to see where this goes. The ending of GoW3 was pretty final.

Perhaps a new GoW in a different pantheon?

They need to reinvent the series IMO. As much as I like Kratos, I would like a less angry, more relatable protaganist. I'm also kinda done with the Chains/Blades. Let's go in a new direction with new weapons and setting.

Problem is Kratis IS God Of War. He's the face of that series and probably Sony's most marketable character so they would probably have him star in at least one more game. Which would suck because Santa Monica should be doing something different, instead of adding multiplayer to their game.

Or various gods from different cultures. David jaffe said before he wanted GOW III to start with the detah of Zeus and other gids realising he was dead came in to try to take over his area. It had Kratos going all over the world fighting different monsters and he fought a huge cat thing and froze it with the Medusa head and it turned out to be the Sphynx we know today. Hopefully they recruited him again to write because he has a lot of ideas in him.

Not saying this would work for GOW IV, just saying the possibilities

Couldn't agree more. I love Kratos and his badass-ness but another game with him in it will feel boring dull and re-hashed. I love the chain weapons but I had enough of them in GOW III seen as every weapon was a chain variant.

I want them to keep their brutal close up QTE moments that make GOW what it is alone with stunning visuals. But I want a new character who is badass in battle and relatable and human outside of it. Have a commander of an army or something like that back in Sparta's glory days. Play as a young Ares or something. Anything fresh would be welcomed greatly

Yeah I would love to play as Leonidas or Achellies or someone commanding a whole army. That would be awesome.

And with GOW's Brutal nature you know it would be pretty epic. It doesn't have to be before or after the GOW we know and love. It could simply just be a tale from another spartans point of view. Maybe they will make a "300" game :P

I'm also on the bandwagon of moving on from Kratos. We get it, his family is dead, tricked into killing them, ghost of sparta yar yar yar. He had his "redemption" in GOW III and the gods are um pretty dead so fresh start with a new character would be optimal. Interested to see what happens with the series but after 5 games it needs a new story.

And new characters. I don't even care if the main protagonist doesn't even kill gods or anything like that. Im fine with just killing normal dudes

I think Kratos was interesting because they gave him a cause, but they didn't make him out to be a saint (he was happy to slaughter anyone, even innocents, he only turned against Ares because he was tricked into slaughtering his own family) or even a particularly pleasant person. If you look at Greek mythology, people clearly had very different values back then (in one version of Medusa's origin, she was a beautiful priestess who had offended Athena by getting raped by Poseiden in Athena's temple, who then turned her into a monster) and by those low (by our measure) standards, Kratos was a good guy. I would like a new protagonist, but I also think it would make sense for the new god (or demigod, or warrior who wants to kill the God of War) fit within his world, rather than being a sympathetic guy with modern values.

There is a difference between what the mythology says and what makes for a good character and narrative. That may have been the way things were but as far as controlling a character like that no one likes it all that much especially a 6th game in. It was hard to find Kratos' motivation for his incessent blood lust for Zeus. It was just "he's in your way now kill him and everyone along the way" it kind of lost track of itself.

Great stories are made by great characters that are 3 dimensional. while Kratos worked for GOW 1 and 2 he got a bit annoying in 3. We need a character that kills for a reason and a purpose but also reflects on what he has done. Kratos killed his wife, daughter, father and mother without a shred of hesitation. and they only added in his "redemption" in 3 to try tie things up.

Sean, admirable and interesting aren't necessarily the same thing, and I submit that if most people didn't find Kratos interesting, there wouldn't be five GoWs. I think Kratos is a great character because his moveset illustrates just how unpleasant he is (ripping the wings off of flying creatures, plucking out the eyeballs of cyclops). Kratos fixating on Zeus after Zeus betrayed him and killed him (in GoW2) is an understandable reaction (though I should also note Zeus decided to take down Kratos only because Kratos had become an Ares like figure). Also, Kratos wound up killing most of the pantheon (and of course, the Titans) only because they had the poor judgement to get in his way. I loved how Kratos (who is usually eager to mix it up) tried to talk his way out of the fight with Hercules (Zeus's strongest son in mythology) and Hercules (goaded by Hera) was only a little more eager to fight Kratos. Its also worth noting that Kratos didn't knowingly kill his wife and daughter (outrage over their death is what drove him to war with Ares) and that when he killed his mother (an act which grieved him), it was only after Zeus turned her into a monster (because she was going to tell Kratos who his father was) which Kratos could only stop by killing it. Also, Kratos didn't kill his father (Zeus) until the end of GoW3, so your claim that he killed his father before GoW3 doesn't make any sense. *Shrugs* But despite your mistakes, your dislike of Kratos is clear. I'm just not convinced that your solution (a good man with 2011 values who reflects on what he has done) is the right one. Ah well, no point getting worked up about hypotheticals. We'll just have to wait and see what Santa Monica has in store for us.

Kratos only became an Ares like figure because the other Gods would not take away his nightmares of the death of his wife and daughter, as they had promised they would do when he was tasked with killing Ares.
