Up until I played Demon's Souls, I would have said that Dark Messiah of Might and Magic had the best fantasy setting combat.

I remember decapitating a character and then kicking his head across the room...in Dark Messiah, that is.

Come to think of it, Dark Messiah had a lot going for it...where did it go wrong?

Also, Diablo 1 and 2 are great in terms of fantasy combat, imo.

Just looking for people's favorite fast paced fantasy combat...

Shadow of the Colossus was also outstanding...

Dark Messiah on PC is a very good game, IMO. The console version was stripped down a bit, but still valid. I loved kicking orcs over railings, down stairwells and through windows and the boss fights were awesome. Don't believe the reviews, people :D

Dark Messiah was pretty satisfying. It's a shame - not a lot of fantasy action games...they're mostly just slower paced RPGs. Not that there's anything wrong with slower paced RPGs,of course (Torment and BG are some of my all time favorites).

Demon's Souls combat doesn't really do it for me...there's no real sense of impact and it overall feels pretty basic.

It's not really fantasy, but I've always loved the sword fighting in Way of the Samurai - parries, shoves, sword breaking..opening up your opponent'sguardfor that one-shot finisher. Felt like playing a Kurosawa flick. It is a feudal setting, though..so maybe it counts.
