Dragon Warrior 4 (NES) - the best game I ever played.

Tecmo World Wrestling (NES)

Duck Tales (NES)

Crystallis (NES)

Batman: Return of the Joker (NES) - possibly the best graphics from the 8 bit era, and the hardest to find today. You can't even find the ROM to emulate this game on the Internet.

Dragon Force (Saturn)

chefstubbies

Not in this world. Dragon Force is the #1 most regarded Saturn game of all time. It is also on the GS greatest games of all time list.

Dragon Force is actually one of the most overrated Saturn games. Not underrated or overlooked at all.

I disagree with you on several things.

1-Pretty much every game for the Sega Saturn could be regarded as unrecognized/underrated considering the relatively short lifespan of the console and dramatic lack of general sales.

2-GS greatest games of all time list means nothing to me. Dragon Force was an amazing game for it's time with great graphics, great story and addictive gameplay. But #1 most regarded Saturn game of all time? I don't think so. You are clearly forgetting about: Dark Savior (the Landstalker sequal fans had been waitng a long time for), Panzer Dragoon, Zwei, and Saga, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue & Lunar: Silver Star Story, and Shining Force 3.

3-Stating that Dragon Force is one of the most overrated Saturn games of all time is only your opinion. Nothing more. And it's an opinion I disagree with 100%.

If you think every Saturn game could be regarded as underrated you obviously don't know what "underrated" means. Underrated implies a rating. Even if only 100 people played X game, if those 100 people rate the game high, it is not underrated.

I'm not forgetting any game, I know the Saturn library perfectly from A to Z. Dragon Force was/is the #1 Saturn game on every single site that featured/features Saturn games. It is the #1 Saturn game at GameFaqs even since it's release. (and which is based on user preference not admins)

If you hanged around any gaming websites during and after the time of it's release, it would've be obvious to you as well.

Nobody praises those other games you mention save Panzer Dragoon and Shining Force III, they do praise Dragon Force.

If you actually bother to check around on how people actually rates Dragon Force you'll find the game is far from "underrated" as everybody seems to believe it is a masterpiece and only throw 9's and 10's at it.

Dragon Force had a lot of severe flaws, most important the awful A.I. that nobody ever mentions, and that actually make me wonder if people actually play it all through it or are just jumping around to conclusions just to praise it mindlessly or to justify their purchase.

You can disagree all you want, it doesn't make the game less flawed.

First of all, you're being condescending for no reason, insinuating that I have no idea what I'm talking about.

You are obviously very proud of your "A-Z" Saturn game library knowledge so good for you. You are clearly a far better person than me based solely on that alone.

Why would I waste hours of my time "checking around" on how well the game did in ratings 12 years ago? What I am talking about is how literally everyone I know has never owned a Saturn, let alone played or even heard of Dragon Force.

I wasn't aware that Dragon Force is still the #1 Saturn game on GameFaq's...what recently released Saturn game are you suggesting they replace it with?

You are clearly a very astute person uncovering the flaws that existed in Dragon Force (forgetting about the fact that pretty much every game in existence 12 years ago suffered from numerous issues of some sort)

Yeah I did play through Dragon Force several times, and aside from your assumption that I "mindlessly praised it to justify my purchase" I enjoyed it despite the flaws that were present.

A game can have problems and still be enjoyable.

Don't be so opinionated that you are incapable of accepting that someone may enjoy a game that you didn't.

Don't be so opinionated that you are incapable of accepting that someone may enjoy a game that you didn't.

So you think all of the Strategy games were so flawed? Funny how Dragon Force's predecessor Dark Wizard which is a far older game didn't had the terrible issues Dragon Force has. Neither did Langrisser or Terra Phantastica.

And we aren't talking about slight A.I. issues, we're talking about totally broken A.I. with the CPU totally wasting their own units. And which for some reason everybody forgets about.

Also that none of your friends knows what a SEGA Saturn is, doesn't mean there weren't a lot of Saturn fans which the Saturn was their main system.

In any case my point was that Dragon Force is far from underrated. It is the most, or if you will one of the most high-regarded Saturn titles, which it seems you have just discovered it and acknowledge it.

If you enjoyed it, that's good. I'm not against it. But it is obvious to me, a lot of people do mindlessly overpraise it. Moreso than any other Saturn title.

The Saturn is my favourite console and SEGA is my favourite company, I have no reason to bash the game mindlessly. However the game is severily flawed, and the flaws are justified. I dislike blind praise most of all, it does more wrong than good.

And it's not really my point to say what other game should take over, or what should be regarded the #1 Saturn game. I'm just exposing the mindlessly praising around it "that does exist"

But how about Dragon Force II? If it has to be Dragon Force. it's like nobody even knows it exists, and it's a better game which fixed most of the issues and has more advantages like mixed units.

More than anything else, I'm taking offense to your insistence that I "blindly praise" Dragon Force simply because I enjoyed it. It's not like I have it displayed in a locked glass showcase or anything, I just remember it being a really fun strategy game. I don't "blindly praise" anything. Except my wife...she'd kill me if I didn't...

But aside from our arguing...you just mentioned Dragon Force 2. When was it released here? I'm going to go hang myself with my own shoelace...

I loved Bushido Blade. That and Tobal No.1 which I bought solely for the Final Fantasy 7 playable demo, but Tobal No.1 ended up being pretty good.

^Kudos.

I'm going to pick Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Not because it's underrated as such, but because many people don't even mention it in GameCube discussions I've had - probably due to it bombing at retail. In all of the GameCube discussions I've had, I have always been the first to give it a mention. More people need to play this gem.

On the same note, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is always missing in Zelda discussions. I've heard countless people rant on about the brilliance of A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and whatever, yet they always fail to mention LA, which I consider to be one of the most well designed games in the franchise, and also the first killer action-adventure on a handheld platform. Yet so many Zelda fans ignore it so they have more space to gush over ALttP and OoT... *sigh*

Are you really sure that you want to get me started? I could go on about Rocket Jockey, Magic Carpet, Exile (the BBC Micro/C64/Amiga game, not whatever was released on old consoles), Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri, Outcast, Lightspeed/Hyperspeed, Starflight, Azrael's Tear, Albion, Sutte Hakkun, Emerald Dragon, Bulk Slash, and who knows what else that I can't recall at the moment... I must say, though, you have made me want to thoroughly investigate Little Samson. I've heard the title before, and seen an ending screenshot, but never bothered to view a video of it until now...and it looks like fun.

underrated? that was a terrible game.

i'll put forward 'mischief makers' for the n64, kinda got overlooked at the time for being a 2D sidescroller in the whole 3D craze.

I've heard the title before, and seen an ending screenshot, but never bothered to view a video of it until now...and it looks like fun.NamelessPlayer

yeah little samson is a great jump n run with good controls and gameplay. :)

The only issue is that I'm not really sure what's going on due to the lack of text or dialogue. This seems to be the same case for Seirei Densetsu Lickle as well (same game, Japanese title). For instance, is Kirara really trying to just test Samson's strength, or is she just deciding to kick away the bell and fight just for kicks?

Not to get mixed up in the Dragon Force debate (I never played it), I do however want to mention a couple of other underrated (in my opinion, of course) Saturn games. First, I absolutely loved Shining the Holy Ark. I've always liked RPG's that aren't as critically acclaimed (though highly rated on this site). Another one is Guardian Heroes. I guess I can't really say it's underrated since it's overall rating is over 9, but 9 out of 10 people don't even know it existed. Oh, I also liked Mystaria (which they re-released as Blazing Heroes).

[QUOTE="Yagr_Zero"]How about Bushido Blade for the PS1?chefstubbies

I loved Bushido Blade. That and Tobal No.1 which I bought solely for the Final Fantasy 7 playable demo, but Tobal No.1 ended up being pretty good.

Bushido Blade was good and come to think of it ... the game is still the most realistic fighting game out there to date!

I've at least heard of all of those titles, and I definitely remember watching Blasto being played (though I never actually played it myself).

The second part of this just got put up since it talks about this topic.

Top Ten Neglected NES games

As far as the PS1 yeah, I wish Bushido Blade had a real sequel. 2 was just not... Bushido Blade-y enough.

Well you should try Future Cop. It has great multiplayer. The only downside to the game is that there are no checkpoints ... so if you die you have to start the whole level again.

[QUOTE="WushuFighter"]Zelda 2 deserves so much more than it gotRelys

*Barf*

Dragon Warrior 4 (NES) - the best game I ever played.

Tecmo World Wrestling (NES)

Duck Tales (NES)

Crystallis (NES)

Batman: Return of the Joker (NES) - possibly the best graphics from the 8 bit era, and the hardest to find today. You can't even find the ROM to emulate this game on the Internet.

jawallac

Yes, Duck Tales was AWESOME.

Good call! Duck Tales is awesome and DQ4 is the best game on the NES in my opinion. I cannot wait for the DS release of DQ 4/5 & 6!

An action RPG I really liked was Lagoon was for the SNES. I know that it's kinda a Ys ripoff and your sword was 2 inches long, but once you got used to the swordplay it was a fun game. And Paladin's Quest which, I believe, was published by Enix was another RPG I had a lot of fun with. Not to mention 7th saga which was another good game I've played through a few times.

I'll add Guerilla War for NES. It was my favorite game to play on nintendo. I played through it several times.

An excellent game that I always think about when the subject of underrated games comes up is Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth for the N64.

*sigh*Bradleyo_XD

Link's Awakening is one Zelda I always mention, (to remind people it exists) it's one of my favourites.

I played the re-released the DX verison of it for the Gameboy Colour.

Way of the Samurai 2 for the PS2. I liked the fact you could choose whose side you wanted to be on.

*Quackshot Starring Donald Duck (Mega drive)
*Normy's Beach Babe-O-rama (Megadrive) I really loved this game, most people have never heard of it and if they do they seem to hate it :(
*D (3do,SS,PSone) & D2 (Sega Dreamcast)
*Shenmue (Dreamcast) though lots of people know it a huge amount of people have either never played or heard of this piece of video gaming treasure :(
