I don't think there are any realistic shooters. I've played Red Orchestra, and that has a very realistic feel to it, and maybe the Project Reality mod for BF2. Cod4, however, is not what war is like, sorry. Wars are typically fought with planned tactics, alot of hide and seek. I doubt this would appeal to many gamers, as real war is not fun, and soldiers don't get to creatively wonder off alone and kill bad guys with bad AI. bugtrip
yep also at the end of the line you dont always start at the last checkpoint, sometimes you are captured and tortured or killed. imagine a game where you can only play once, and when you get shot once, you die, and you can never start a new game.
I've heard that America's Army is very realistic, though I haven't played it. Operation Flashpoint was up there, you had to really use cover and different tactics and such to survive.Rekunta
operation flashpoint was so so hard and aparently there is a new one being made cant wait for that.
[QUOTE="syztem"]Realistic how? STALKER, for example, is filled with mutants and the like.yea id agree with you there CoD4 would have to be the most realistic shooter ive played
Call of Duty 4 seems pretty accurate, although I've never gone to war before.

With respawning enemies, regenerating health and linear maps? CoD4 is an arcade shooter compared to Operation Flashpoint, America's Army or the early Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games.
I'll go out and say it............World War II: Online. Graphics are bad. But if you can get past that, theres a damn good game under there. Its Got excellent sound. Best sound of any game i've heard. nothing like a Deystroyers shells flying over you, inland, and scarin the sh*t outta you.
Its got hours of sheer Bordem, like real war. then when a fight does erupt, its intense.
Nothing like keeping watch over a town with a handfull of squad mates for hours, doin nothin. then you hear a tank out there somewhere. then you see him... a couple of KM out. Then all the EWS go off around town. Call it in, you've got about 5 min tops to set up. its the only game ive played online where ive actually been worried about dying.

hate how the rainbow six games have gone arcadey in there gameplay, spent so so many hours playing them online when they were PC only.

Why does it have to resemble out real life? Because that's the definition of the word
Adj.1.realistic - aware or expressing awareness of things as they really are;
There really isn't invisible things floating in fields that will set us on fire, no mind devices that will turn us into zombies.
I'll admit the combat is pretty realistic but the game isn't by any stratch of the imagination
For all the people out there who think CoD4 is the most realistic, I feel bad for you, allthough there are some aspects of that game that are accurate (bullet penetration)Trust me, no body can control those weapons like they do in that game. The most realistic i have played so far is Brothers in Arms, Red Orchistra, and the first Ghost Recons. Operation Flashpoint 2 looks to be the most promising of them all. But, I think we will see the best, most realistic games ever in a decade or so when our programs will be unbeliveably powerful to create unthinkable AI and and graphics.FsDxRAGEalso im a big audio phanatic, so i look at games in which the guns sound the most real, like i hate the crap in which the guns sound like you are beating a tire with a stick (idk) Red Orchistra has hands down the best audio...
CoD4 isn't that realistic at all... As far as I know, I don't have a grenade indicator inside my eye. Also, I've never in my entire life seen anyone that could jump around and fire a pump shotgun. Plus, when was the last time someone in a battle was shot and to make everything better, hid behind a fence for 10 seconds or so until their "booboo" went away? I could go on and on, but I think those prove my point.
Now, am I saying it's a bad game? Not at all, and I enjoyed it a great deal but it sure as heck isn't realistic!
The only semi-realistic FPS that come to mind are the original Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six games, perhaps America's Army, Operation Flashpoint and ArmA: Armed Assault.
CoD4 is one of my favorite shooters with very realistic atmosphere including environmental and weapon effects. It's not a realistic game however.
I'd say RO:Ostfront 41-45 is heads and sholders abover any other in realism, including OpF. Ballistics, damage modeling, navigation and terrain movement based on kit/vehicle is insane.

Most games use real unfire sounds esspescially the Rainbow 6 games which sample the specific gun you're firing, the problem is that later they soften them and mix the sounds with drum beats and such
The most realistic FPS I've played is COD2 and it is an old game. I've yet to play COD4.Thiago26792Regenerative health is not realistic and it's far too easy to be realistic.
