Based on my Xbox experiences in the past week I decided to make this topic. Now I've never had a single problem with any console I've owned, never had them break, never had an faults at all. The closest thing to a problem is my PS2's disk slot sticks some times.

Now last Mnday I got an Xbox, "yey loads of cheap good games!" I thought, which is true. Except that MS somehow managed to make the worst disk drives in the world. The first one I got played games, but my Ninja Gaiden disk wouldn't work, it kept saying "Xbox cannot read this disk it may be dirty or damaged,"I figured it was just that game and maybe it was scratched or dodgy so I carried on. But then it started to happen to all my games and some of them were really slow, Doom 3 would lag like hell in the opening FMV's which I found weird, Halo 2's textures took ages to loads and Chronicles of Riddick was playing up, then all the games started coming with those messages. So I took it back and got a replacement (took a 30 minute journey. Then I tried that and it wouldn't read the disks at all. So another 30 minute journey later I have my 3rd console in a week, hopefully this one will work *touches wood*. Yeah I know they were used consoles but c'mon they could've got better lasers that don't wear out so damn fast! It makes it even worse since I've never had problems with any console before. Oh well the store gave me a free copy of Halo which is fair enough (even though I have it already...ebay time)

So what's the most troublesome console you've owned? Which has had the most problems, or are you just super lucky =p

Unfortunately, I have to say my Xbox 360. I've had to send it in twice, once due to the red ring, and the other due to some fault in the tray that scratched any disc I put in. (Fortunately, after it ruined Guitar Hero III, I didn't put any others in.) But, this isn't to say it's not a good console. It's the best console I've ever had, and I own both the PS3 and Wii as well. And now that Microsoft "found" the hardware problem, there should be no more red rings. :P

It's probably a toss up between my PS2 and my 360, though my 360 that I just got a few months ago hasn't really had issues other than network/internet issues that aren't that bad, considering. My brother's Xbox that I used gave us all kinds of problems before it got the RROD (which led my to buy my own with the extended warranty). The PS2 pretty much gave us problems with the DVD player from the get go, and it gradually became fickle about which games it wanted to read and when it wanted to read them. I think my little bro bought a new PS2 slim a couple years ago, but with the WII and the 360s, we don't really play it anyways. Despite that, I always liked the PS2 :)

Out of the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo, the Game Boy, the Game Boy Color, the Game Boy Advance, the Nintendo DS, the PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, the Nintendo 64, the Nintendo GameCube, the Xbox, the Sega, the Sega Genesis, and the Nintendo Wii...

... I have only had problems with the Xbox 360. I am on my 3rd "replacement" now.

I'm on my third PS2. And I'll be buying the fourth one (new) soon to have in reserve for when this one dies. Also my last gen Xbox is dying and will only play certain games. Unfortunately I won't be replacing it as I'm guessing all the used ones are burnt also at this point. I don't mind buying another PS2 - it is IMO the console with the best library of games - I just wish they were built to last.

I had to exchange my PS1 once. Been working for the last 11 years now.

My first PS2 lasted 2 and a half years. That was back in 2003 when I replaced it. Still working.

Xbox 360 and the original Playstation are two of the most poorly built consolses I have ever owned.

Ironically, they also had the games I loved the most on them.

My 360, which has red ringed on me twice. Aside from that I had the disc drive go out on my GameCube (of all consoles) back in 2002. Fortunately I live close enough to Nintendo that I actually drove there and had it swapped out for another on the spot rather than having to mail it and wait weeks for it to come back, which was good because this was right after Super Mario Sunshine was released. The replacement I got kept going strong since, though has been retired since I got the Wii.

I would have to consider between x360 (RROD) or PS3 updates bricking the console. I would call it a draw.

Wow, you're pretty much the only person I've ever heard of having trouble with the Gamecube. Gotta love that quality Nintendo build quality on their products though. You never hear of anything like RRoD or the PS2 disk errors on a Nintendo console. Just having to blow into the NES =p

I'm gonna give it a draw between my ps3 and my 360. My PS3 stopped playing PS2 games three months after I bought it and my 360 RRODed, but that was after I had it for two plus years.

The ONLY console to ever give me trouble is my 360. My first one read game discs as dvd's, and my second one scratches games. My third one has been good for about a year now. But it's starting to freeze up more frequently and I'm seeing some graphical glitches in my games, so I sense a RRoD in the near future.

I know, it's crazy. At least the replacement process was pretty painless. Nintendo really excels at customer service.

PS2. I dont know maybe its becouse I live in Poland or something but I had a horrible experiance trying to find a place that would repair my PS2 (disk read, memory card slots not working, the console for some reason burning the circut breakers inside...or whatever they are called, after years of use and abuse the controller ports malfunctioning). When I finally did find someone to fix it I pay so much money I just wanted to throw the thing away.

Tough call, but I'd sy either my NES or my PS2.
My PS2 wouldn't read any of my games, so I opened it up (which I wouldn't recommend everyone do) and cleaned it out. Works ok now.
And of course my NES was a pain because I remember blowing on pretty much every game to get it to play.

Playstation. It's probably the most stable system out there, but the diskholder spinner on mine kept coming off. The CD's kept wobbling, and the laser couldn't read it. I bought it used so I guess that was my fault.

Every other system I had was pretty reliable, including the original XBOX.

I really hope so, because the amount of people I'm seeing on these forums saying "I'm on my third 360" etc etc, is really ridiculous, even though most of them are okay with the fact that their 360 RRoDs over and over, its something they really shouldn't have to go through so frequently.

The DS has placed a serious strain with my OCD as far as its dead pixel issue goes. Fortunately Nintendo's pretty lenient when it comes to trading in "defective" systems.

XBOX 360 is the only console that's been troublesome for me. Freezes on all of my games at some point which is annoying, has led to a bit of replaying bits of games over a number of times. Though other than that all of the consoles I've owned have been fine; Sega Master System II, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, GBC, GBA and DS.

UPDATE: My 360 just red-ringed on me. Extremely annoying, and terrible timing as I just got paid and was going to get a couple of games tomorrow. Though the games are good, the 360 has to be the worst console I've ever owned.

360.

My N64 was drowned in about 2 feet of water and it still works fine.

360 gets pampered like a king, and it dies.

Im on my 3rd.

I have owned an NES, SNES, N64, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3. I have only had problems with my NES and my xbox 360.

My RROD story of the Xbox 360, I purchase my 360 about a year ago, and after 1 month I had the RROD. I def was pretty upset about that.

An interesting point is since the NES, it is very rare any of the nintendo consoles had issues causing the consoles to break prematurely. I played my SNES an insane amount and it still works to this day.

My PS2. First one went alright for a year or two, then the controller ports started crapping out and the disc drive began making horrible grinding noises. Second one (a PSTwo) went maybe six months before the controller ports went. I'm on my third now...although I still don't place a lot of faith in the ports, since plugging and unplugging a controller seems to weaken the shoddy mechanism they have there and it eventually shorts out.

Newbs! NES was my most difficult console ever. Remember when we used to have to blow the dust out of the cartridges, or use that cartridge cleaning liquid & brush? What a pain! But it always worked eventually.

Xbox 360. I got my first one on a monday, and when i went to plug it in, there was a plastic bit in the back where you plug the power cord into. Wouldn't plug in, and turns out it was previously used and sold again as new. Brought it back on the wednesday, got a new one from another store. This time it was new, had the stickers on it and everything. I plug it all in, and not five minutes into setup, it red rings.

I bought it back two days later, on the friday, and got my $300 back. Bought a DS Lite the next day, haven't had any problem with it (or any other Nintendo product). My 360 debacle really soured me on the console, and i'll never buy another one.

I've had lots of consoles from the days of the Amiga and Spectrum..to now...and none of have ever broken or failed.....

.....EXCEPT the Xbox 360. It broke 2 weeks after launch day..broke 3 more times after that. The final straw was when MS sent it back to me with an entirely different fault than the one it was sent in with. Game Over.

My fat PS2 DRE'd. Worst console I've owned. Love my slim, hated that fat piece of trash. Still, I was able to suffer through all those times it froze and got the disc read error and played some fantastic games.
