It seems it's receiving mixed reviews, what do you guys think?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
This seems entirely expected. Square Enix seem to have written this one off - I haven't seen it advertised anywhere at all.
@Planeforger
Its not just that..... Adventure Games always get scores like this its a niche genre that pretty much specialises in doing the exact opposite of what popular games do that reviewers have grown acustommed to and considered a Standard....... But I can't say for sure if thats the case without reading the actual review...... But the key phrases to look out for are "Too Slow at times" and "Devoid of Action/Suspense"
Hmmm... Not looking good. But I have played other games before that rated poorly and I ended up liking it. So I might still check it out.
So I've been thinking....... Why are the Critic Scores and Viewer Scores place seperately ?
Obviously theres some serious trolls and fanboys with one word reviews followed by a perfect rating...... But aren't Critics just as Bias ?
I say we lump them together and see what happens.
The scores are disappointing. I had high hopes for this game. Ill buy it when it gets a major price cut.

Not surprising , its not a Telltale or a FPS so it might fly over the heads of many of these younger critics who weren't even born back when adventure games was at its peak.
I am getting this when it comes out so ill make my own judgment.
Is this even an adventure game though?
I thought it was an action adventure game. There certainly seems to be fighting bits against otherworldly spirits in the trailers.
*edit* Ahhh, okay, it's an adventure game with stealth bits. I can think of maybe one game where that combination worked well (Dreamfall), but that actually has me much more interested in this title. Maybe I'll pick it up, if I can find it for under $30.

Its most certainly is an Adventure game.
The action i have seen is not making it anything else.
I've seen Adventure games score highly (Zero Escape) so I think it's more that the game isn't entirely good.
@Planeforger
You could say its an Adventure Action Game...... Or Active Adventure Games......
Its seems as though they added some stealth just to as Review fodder so that reviewers will have something familar to play with..... Just like LA Noire and its GTA Style Formula...... And you know what..... It worked !
But because they don't give it special attention it suffers alil bit...... its better if they leave it out next time.
In other news. The latest of Sherlock Holmes's Adventures, Crimes and Punishments, will be released an a whopping 5 platforms in September !
www.sherlockholmes-thegame.com/
Despite its obscurity.... The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes has actually been gaining more ground and regardless of the previous games nonexistant Critical Reception they not only still want to bring adventure games to consoles.... They Wana bring it to everyone ! :)
The Adventure Genre still has one card left to play...... :)
But wait..... Theres more..... Order Now and you'l get a big fat Kiss.... From me.... Lulu ! :p mwa !
I've seen Adventure games score highly (Zero Escape) so I think it's more that the game isn't entirely good.
Zero Escape is not a adventure game, its a jrpg.
Also its a handheld game so it doesn't really compare to a fully fledge AAA Adventure game. which like LA noire seem to fall on deaf ears in todays mainstream FPS casual gamer market.
I rented it, and I think it's pretty good. It's not groundbreaking by any means. The PS3 version has some choppy animations and framerate issues, the glitches are a little hard to ignore, I had it crash on me once, and the gameplay is minimalistic. You can't fail investigations at all, but getting a high rank on one takes a bit of trial and error. I like the ghost-like gameplay, and seeing how Ronan investigates things. This isn't so much a horror story so much as a ghost story: not meant to be particularly frightening, but at the very least interesting and unnerving. Salem, Massachusetts is a great place for a ghost story as well, given its horrific and unsettling history. Think of it as a mix of Telltale games storytelling, LA Noire's investigation gameplay (not combat), and a Silent Hill atmosphere. The story is well told, the atmosphere is thick, and the gameplay, while minimal, is there to drive the story forward, which is the best part of the game. It's not a great "game" by any means, but if you like interactive stories, give this one a look.
@Jacanuk: A JRPG? The Zero Escape games are visual novels with lots of puzzles and absolutely no action sequences. They're essentially adventure games (and Virtue's Last Reward has a kick-ass plot, well wotth playing!).
@Jacanuk: Did you REALLY just call Zero Escape a JRPG? How ignorant can you be? Also, if you played it, you'd know that the story is better than most video game stories.

The first one's story is better, I'd say. They're both really awesome but the first one's story was a lot more personal and touching. the second one was a lot "bigger" but I liked the more personal touch of the first game better. But yes, VLR's story is kick ass and some of the plot twists literally made my jaw drop.
@mastermetal777
Glad you thought it as okay atleast ;)
and when it comes to things like mystery solving and making a deduction then there is no gameplay.... Atleast not in the game, its a mental exercise so most of the work happens in your head..... Naturally there is MASSIVE flaw in this design method and you just got a taste of it..... Trial and Error.
If the mysteries aren't constructed properly then people get frustrated and brute force their way to the solution..... But thats not the real problem thats just an annoyance..... The real problem is that Brute Forcing will eventually work !
Try every item in your inventory...
try every combination in the order....
search every nook and cranny.....
Eventually sheer persistance will eventually get through...... and thats not very elegant, its bad when action games do it and even worse in Puzzle games.
Obviously the guys who made LA Noire, Team Bondi, knew this already and they tried to solve the problem by letting you continue even if you still get many things wrong....
But that presents an enirely different problem of its own.
People don't think it matters. So they don't mind faking it till they make it. Then they critisise the game for being too easy.....
Its much much harder to establish a proper Skill Gap in knowledge based games.
Hm, the reviews don't seem to be very positive, but I actually rather enjoyed the looks of it from watching gameplay videos. I think this might be one of those games where I'm in complete disagreement with the reviewing community, but I'll wait a bit longer before shelling out the full 60 bucks for this game.
I know I've said this before..... But I'l say it again.
Despite the well esablished industry norm that a review tells you the game's quality, thats not really what the reviewer is is suppose to do. The reviewer is suppose play the game and simply descibe the game.... They're suppose to tell you the details without oppinion and without bias. That means no more Scores and Ratings !
Now naturall many of you will ask: "So Are we suppose to just stop caring about reviews ?"
Nope.... No need to be drastics, but now you must bare the responsibilty of fair reviews yourself. Now if you read the review then you must then bare the burden of filtering out all the reviewers oppinions yourself. Disregard how they feel about something and try to get more information about what that something is.
At the end of reading a review about Soul Suspect all you should only draw certain things away from it.
Adventure Game
Deduction Mechanics a few Puzzles here and there
Simple Stealth
And so on.
You get the idea..... From there you can draw your own oppinion if this is your kind of game....
