Ok, on the mission "No Russian" there where a few things i didn't understand. 1st, when yourmaking you're getting into the vehicle at the very end and makarov shoots you, there are 3 soldiers that watch the vehicle drive off and most likely would have heard a single gun shot, would'nt they realise you did something to was a little off as opposed to an organized US attack on a russian airport where you go in, kill, and get out with very little friendly fire. Also Makarov's squad is NOT immortal. I finished the level with only me, Viktor, and Makarov alive, so an American body wouldn't be the only one found, there would be several Russian bodys too. This along with an American being shot by the other attackers would; at least i would assume, lead to several questions that would prevent Russia from simply declaring war on the US. Then there is also surveillance cameras that would have seen a largely Russian group attacking(assuming security wasn't disabled before they went it. Any thoughts?

You are looking way too deep into a mission that should never have left the drawing board.

Sloppy writing I'd say. I really enjoyed MW2, but I will admit the story was at times really implausible and left some unanswered plot holes.

"No Russian" was put in the game for pure shock value, so the game would sell more. That's how I see it, becausethe levelpacks very little in terms of contributing to the story (even excluding the plot holes mentioned by the OP) and it's just too unnecessary.Of course the "shock value = sales" strategy blew up in IW's face with the backlash of criticism the level generated...

But "No Russian" is far from the biggest plot holein the game.

I don't know. MW2 has done extraordinarily well sales wise, and it's almost impossible to tell if the criticism it has generated has had a negative effect on any additional sales.

1. ITs a video game.

2. It isnt the real world.

3. How do we know tensions between US and russia were not strained

4. US went to war with iraq after 9/11 not knowing truly who did it. And made up stuff to make it look like the mid east was responsible.

5. The dudes around you after you get shot are cops. And the van is an ambulance. And the cops are obviously like WTF just happened?

6. This is Russia not america.

Also without the no russia mission we wouldnt understand why we were fighting russians. Basically use your head and you will figure the story out. Its that kind of story.

1. ITs a video game.

and?

2. It isnt the real world.

and?

3. How do we know tensions between US and russia were not strained

very true, i didnt even think about that

4. US went to war with iraq after 9/11 not knowing truly who did it. And made up stuff to make it look like the mid east was responsible.

again, very true

5. The dudes around you after you get shot are cops. And the van is an ambulance. And the cops are obviously like WTF just happened?

so assuming US and Russia were completely neutral wouldn't them questioning what happened stopped Russia from instantly declaring war?

6. This is Russia not america.

i dont see what you're trying to say with this

Also without the no russia mission we wouldnt understand why we were fighting russians. Basically use your head and you will figure the story out. Its that kind of story.

exactly, so shouldn't they have spent more time fixing the plot holes?

This game has an overly ambitious plot in my opinion. Sometimes it was hard to keep track of what was going on. And i think the terrorist mission in the airport only had shock value because of the warning screen at the start of the game. I went through the game anticipating the mission that could possibly offend me not realising that the airport bit was it. I asked a friend had he played the potentially 'offensive' mission and he told me that he had and it was the airport/civilian/terrorist part. I was confused when i heard this as I had just spent the first part of the game killing anything i could in a violent fashion. I have also racked up around 5000 civilian kills in GTA4 so i guess the value of virtual human life never came into question for me. Thats just me though

About that mission: just to mock us, they put a little alcove in the corridor before the garage where Makarov shoots you, so when I finished the mission I quickly reloaded the checkpoint and instead of following the terrorists to the van I hid there to save me from getting shot! Guess what: Makarov hits you anyway, 30 feet away, through 2 concrete walls and steel pipes, a clean headshot. I laughed. Check out this video showing it

Basically you're led to believe that the Ultranationalists who took over Russia ignored all the other signs and used the CIA agents corpse as an excuse to go to war. They were already pissed off that Zakahev was killed and the attack at Zakahev international didn't help. If you notice, Makarov set it up to look like the Americans attacked the airport hence why he says No Russian and they all speak english so any witnesses will say "They all spoke English" and with the corpse of an American, they used it as an excuse to attack America.

I found it okay, but unnecessary. It could have simply been a cutscene, but does add to the "shock value" of the game.

I was just watching "The Fugitive" last night with Harrison Ford and the part where he is on the train and one of the bad guys shoots a cop in front of a whole train full of passengers and he subdues the guy, but yet he has to keep running until the ultimate resolution with the "real bad guy" is achieved.

There are just stupid plot holes that don't make much sense in lots of media not just Modern Warfare 2.
